WALKING THE TALK …
It is hard to believe that 16 years ago we started our Green Shuttle business on the simple premise that driving our clients in a fuel efficient hybrid to the airport was just better for the environment than driving a traditional black towncar to the airport. Getting 40 mpg was just better for the environment than getting 20 mpg. Cutting carbon emissions in half was simply a good thing to do. Personally I am not a “tree hugger” type, I am just pragmatic. I love the outdoors, I love being outdoors, I love the ocean and I just want to do what I can to keep those beautiful environments, beautiful. For us, for our kids and most importantly for our beautiful grandchildren. Nothing fancy, just practical. We have driven about 8,000,000 miles since we started, that’s a lot of carbon. If you don’t agree that this is a good thing to do, that’s fine, no need to argue, I will just keep doing my thing anyway because for me it just feels right.
OUR FUTURE ….
We are in the process of evaluating fully electric cars (EV’s) for our fleet. In our business, reliability and dependability are our number 1 priorities and we will not make this conversion until we are comfortable that the time is right. Range is still an issue and reliability is still a concern. Charging infrastructure still isn’t there yet. We will continue to do our due diligence but you can expect to see EV’s in our fleet within the next 2-5 years and hopefully we will convert our fleet to full EV’s within the next 10 years. Again, just because it makes good economic sense for our business. I am personally the EV “test kitchen” for our business. One thing I have noticed about 20,000 miles into the tests is how much money I am saving compared to an ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle. The savings are substantial and Massachusetts is not known for cheap electricity. If you live in a cheap electricity state and are not driving an EV for your around town errands you may want to “do the math” and see how much you can save. You may find that it is substantial.
CELEBRATING TODAY ….
It is nice to acknowledge our planet today, but, what about the other 364 days of the year? We run our business 24/7/365 … we try to do the right thing every day, in our business and in our daily lives, and we will continue that mission.
