A brief introduction to Peony/ Peonies.

They are one of the most opulent flowers widely used for their symbolism and even to this day they are used for some medicinal properties. There are more than twenty varieties of peonies and you can tell them apart based on the shape of their petals.

In the bottom photo we try to showcase how they look initially before they fully bloom. Looking at the photo from left to right you will notice that the first peony is about a size of a marble. From there they fully bloom and extend even more than the third peony being shown in the image below.

As mentioned previously they are a very luxurious high end flowers making them more expensive than roses. Thus, why they are commonly featured in weddings and why we see many celebrities be given peonies or have in special events.

In some cultures Peonies symbolize prosperity and it would explain their popularity apart from their beauty.
Due to their high demand and symbolism they are expensive due to their limited availability, fragility, labor- intensive (hard to grow), majority are imported (import cost) and not grown locally. Also season and phenotype(color/characteristics) can add to their cost.
The best seasons for peonies at least in our area is between spring mid summer.
