The meaning of the key:

Married women had a very strong position in the pre-Christian era and had pretty much equal rights as the men, and keys helped express this.
Sadly when Christianity took over in Scandinavia, these rights and equality disappeared.

When a couple was married, the wife was given a set of keys to symbolize her new status – “given to lock and key,” as it was called.
The shiny bronze keys hung in full sight on her clothing, along with a small knife or a pair of scissors.
The literature also tells us that all rich married Viking women carried keys amongst their personal items.
The key symbolised the woman’s status as housewife and chief of the household.

The majority of the keys come from women’s graves.
They represent a range of different types, made of iron, bronze, or a combination.
Most of the finds are bronze or iron keys with two bends, which were used in the latter Viking Era.
But the key can also represent just what it does. Unlocking things considering the findings we have from graves.

But did you know that this is also where the old superstition that you should never put your keys on a table because it meant bad luck comes from?
If a man put his Keys on the table, it could considered that he wanted the woman to be his wife and in charge of his household.

It's time to schedule fittings for those spring and summer weddings!

Here are some buying and fitting tips for all you brides and grooms: 👰🏾🤵

Try on many different styles even if you didn't picture yourself in them. You may be surprised.

This is possibly the most self expressive garment you will ever wear. Pick what you love and not what someone else sees you in.

Don't buy a garmnent that is more than two sizes different from the size you need. Anything that doesn't fit by 4 inches or more needs a lot of work to get it to fit.

Don't stress about designer sizing. It's all about the way your clothes fit and makes you feel, not about an arbitrary number on a tag.

Order the dress or suit size according to your largest measurement. It's easier to take clothes in than to let them out.

Be aware of how you feel in the dress or suit as you move and sit. If it's heavy and hard to move in while trying it on, it will be hard to dance in at your reception.

Do a "sit test." You want to be able to sit comfortably in your clothes on your wedding day.

Take lots of pictures from many different angles to send to your seamstress. This is the easiest way to get a ballpark quote before booking an appointment.

Don't try to hide a pregnancy. We need to know ASAP and we will work with you. We will also keep your secret.

Lose all the weight you want up to 8-10 weeks before your wedding. It's best to maintain your weight after you have your first dress fitting with a seamstress.

Don't trust a stylist who says "it's an easy alteration." They don't sew so they don't know.

Account for alterations in your overall clothing budget.

The price of alterations has nothing to do with how much you spent on your dress or suit. It has everything to do with how much time and skill is needed to make the changes.

A cheaper option may be a bargain until you factor in how much alterations will cost to fix wear and tear. Make sure it's truly worth it.

If you are unsure about a clothing purchase, ask a seamstress. We will be straight forward in our recommendations for fit and price.
