Tony’s Gyros was started in 1993 in Pittsburgh PA by Tony Kostandinu, owner and “Gyro Visionary”. Tony, who is an immigrant from Greece, had always known that the traditional Gyro, made with real lamb and beef, roasted and grilled would be a hit. Tony’s Gyros participated in many events in Pittsburgh PA and beyond, racking up almost a cult following in the suburbs surrounding the city. Notable eve
nts included Kennywood Park’s Halloween Horror Night, Station Square, The Johnston Folk Festival, Concert Series and so many community festivals! In 2000, the Kostandinu parents, Tony and Barb, moved to Port St Lucie, Florida and immediately saw an opening in events in the area to serve their delicious Gyros to the Treasure Coast. Soon the booth was a staple at events like Friday Fest in Fort Pierce, Sunset Saturdays in Vero Beach, monthly and seasonal events at Tradition Square and the Port St Lucie Civic Center. In 2010, their son Jason Kostandinu began serving at the Fort Pierce Farmers Market at the marina in Fort Pierce. The Gyro stand is still there every Saturday morning. The menu was expanded to include amazing breakfast items like the Greek Scramble – which includes Gyro meat, scrambled egg, Feta cheese, spinach onion and tomato – and the Morning Gyro – fried egg, gyro meat and the traditional fixings. Brothers Stephen and Mario can also be found working the gyro stand at different events in the area. Tony’s Gyros also has an expanded menu for catering and special events.
