Brad here, and I’ve been seeing all these first day of school pics rolling by. I’m sure there will be more over the next week or so as other area school start up. I see kids, and some grandkids, of Nostalgia goers in there.

So in the spirit of that, let’s see some pictures of you all, when you were in school. I think that at this point, we’ve uncovered most of the club pictures that live out there in the world. But what about the rest of the time? When presumably, you were in school, at least part of the time. I offer up this one of myself from the yearbook, I think my junior year.

Bring on the funny hair and trenchcoats! (You’ll note I’ve got both.)

We’re happy to roll out this years DJ roll call. Your regular Nostalgia crew. Plus this time, the addition of a second room! Complete with more DJs, including Nostalgia crew member Melody, and mini Moody’s reunion of sorts with Mike Miller and Ty Reynolds. As well as some main floor DJs dipping into the second room. Cheaper tier one tickets available now.

Poll question for you. After turning 21 (or getting a fake ID), where was the first place you had a drink?

This is Brad, reposting from my own page yesterday:

Sad news to report to the Confetti’s/late downtown 80’s crowd. One of own, Ron Thomas, has passed away. I don’t remember exactly when I first met Ron. But I suspect that we got to know each in more than just a passing manner from living with Michelle Murray and Mike Smidt (both of whom attended high school with Ron). Quickly forming a loose crew with Ron, Mike, Kevin McCoy (who I thank for letting me know that Ron was in the hospital), Sean Brazie, Mace, Eric Asa, Kyle, Max, David Scott (RIP), Aaron and more that provided a life time of memories and inside jokes. Much of this activity taking at place at or around the Maurice Dear (IYKYK), along with the many other inhabitants of that building (Steve Red Bird, Tom Spiff, Tina, Tana, Mike Stevens, Michael Youngman, Scott Inman, the two punk rockers next door, the list goes on). Ron was always eager to talk music, both bands he was in, as well as records and music that was coming out. And in addition to music, we were always quick to share a laugh. As anyone who knows Ron knows what a funny guy he was. That was a time full of hijinks and (largely harmless) misadventures, a memory rich time for many people who were around, myself included, and Ron was there for many of mine. Somehow even the dark ages that followed the 90’s, before social media, in the time when the whereabouts of so many people were just unknown, Ron and I always kind of managed to stay in touch. It would still be several years at a time between seeing each other, but still within each other’s orbits. He would unexpectedly pop by Platinum, and we’d chew the fat for a while. I was always glad to see him. The last time I saw him in person, I was doing a little bar gig, playing some 80’s tunes in Vancouver. Nothing too exciting, but Ron swung through and hung out. He captured a picture of a bunch of us at a table, but sadly as he was the photographer, wasn’t in the photo. I’ve exchanged messages a few time with him since. I knew he had some hard times, with some health issues and problems at work, and just the general pressures of life. So I reached out to him at the last Nostalgia party and invited him as a guest (because someone not having money shouldn’t keep them from being there). He regretted that he couldn’t make it, he said that he would love to, but couldn’t due to health reasons. I didn’t pry, as that’s such a personal thing. So I didn’t know quite how serious his health problems were. Kevin messaged me yesterday letting me know that things weren’t good for Ron. I’d hoped to go visit him this morning in the hospital, but when I woke, I discovered he had already gone. Rest well friend. Deepest condolences to his daughters, his sisters, his friends and anyone else who loved him.

Post script: Around the time of the last Nostalgia, we exchanged a few texts about music. I’m often trying to get other people’s memories and perspectives on songs and music from that time. Ron shared his Spotify list called Speaker Dancing, his Confetti’s mixtape as it were. Now I’m not a Spotify user, so I don’t know the ins and outs, but I will try to share the link. And I’m sure he would love to know that people were giving it a listen and thinking of him today.

The mixed-use building that houses the Pine Street Market is up for sale, seven years after it opened to much excitement.

A “Where are they now?” moment!

Anyone know who Darby was, back in the day? Long brown hair, good dancer, wicked smile. (I’ll try to see if someone can produce a picture.)

Help a fellow club kid find their long-lost friend! Thanks all!
