It is through tears that I share with all of you that we lost our dear Anissa Harvey today, after an all-too-brief battle with breast cancer. Our hearts are heavy.

Hug a fellow club kid today if you can.

Much love from your Nostalgia family.

Melody here -

Still wrapping my head around the epic Nostalgia 5 this weekend.

I love it when new faces appear that haven’t been to one. I feel so lucky that I get to relive that magic every time. And it truly was magical.

I’ve been saying for years that Nostalgia PDX is what it is because we strive for authenticity. Bringing DJs out of retirement, dusting off records and skills and making this party truly memorable is what we’re about. We started this 14 years ago, graduating eventually to an annual event… and I think we’ve got some big plans in store for our 15-year anniversary.

The music. Oh, the music. Two rooms!! That honestly was the best part of all of this. The variety we got with having two rooms. I couldn’t sit down all night. And I fear I didn’t say hi to everyone but of those I got to chat with, I’m glad I saw your faces. There are so many more faces I missed terribly. I want to keep seeing all of them until the very last person can no longer dance. 💃 🕺 Please plan on attending one if you haven’t yet, or haven’t in a while.

I’m going to be sending a survey out soon, and I want to hear from those who have been avoiding them. What would convince you to go? We really do want to see you!
For those who didn’t attend this year but have in the past, I wanna know why, and how we can ensure you plan on making the next one. We want you back!

(Brad here) here’s a bit of old dance club/underage nightclub ephemera. I have a habit of saving stuff that seemed to have some importance. Sometimes it kind of pays off.
Not 100% on the money for us here. This was a little later, in 1995. But still involved the spot we went to, involving the people who owned it, myself, and other involved in clubs around town.
As some may recall, in 1995, the police were interested in passing an under age club ordinance, that would have restricted times, who could hang out together, and many other things. So the first bit here is a sign up sheet from possibly the first meeting that the city officials and the club people had together. In there side were city attorney, mayor’s office, license bureau and police. Fair to say I’m not putting anyone’s number on blast. On our side, was JD (who at that point was managing Quest), Dan and Russ from Five Star/Concept (Quest), Ali and Jeff from FX/Platinum, Lanny from The City Nightclub, and then for whatever reason, myself as the lone rave representative. At this time I was throwing parties and DJing at parties that were all age. The city seemed to just about out number us.
Also here are a couple of newspaper articles about the club ordinance. I honestly don’t know why the city never got anything on the books. The fight went on for awhile, but eventually fizzled.

Recycling some previous words but updating a few - so listen up, club kids….

IF YOU'RE ON THE FENCE AS TO WHETHER TO GO THIS SATURDAY OR NOT — a few very important points you should know and remember.

- Nobody cares how nice/mean/geeky/cool/other you were back then. They will be delighted to see you no matter what.

- So much time has passed, that no one - and I mean no one - will be the same as they were back then. Sure, a few people will LOOK like they did back then, but the vast, vast majority will not. A select few will look better than they did back then (good for them!!!!), but the vast, vast majority will look older, fatter, and balder. The point here, is - it doesn't matter what you look like now compared to what you looked like then. It doesn't matter what you were like back then versus how you conduct yourself now. Everyone is going to be very glad to see you.

- It's AMAZING how all the drama and stuff from back then has become water under the bridge. Sure, we all may remember things, but it's so long ago that nobody really cares. There hasn’t been a single fist fight, let alone an argument, surface at any of these. Why? Because we’re grownups now. You aren't the only one that's grown up - so has everybody else. Age, experience, and wisdom puts everything in the proper perspective.

- Trust me. That person that you're hesitant to run into at the reunion for whatever reason? They will feel the same way, but they'll be just as anxious to see you. Time truly heals all wounds.

- Don't laugh, but it's highly possible that you're secretly excited to see and say hello to someone that you may not have had a high opinion of back then. And the same could also be true about YOU. We all drove SOMEONE nuts! And most of us (or maybe just me… haha) drove the DJs bonkers with our endless stream of questions and requests - but I can honestly say they’re the ones most excited to see all of you.

- It’s sort of like a high school reunion, but BETTER. Why? Because we only have *social* memories of this place. We don't associate the club with schoolwork, hated teachers, detention/suspension, grades, pressure to perform, and boredom. We save those special memories for our high schools!
Think about it - we all got really excited to go clubbing. Did anybody really get super excited to go to SCHOOL? Yeah… not so much.

- The music is going to be AWESOME. And that’s what makes going worth it. The DJs get amped the week leading up to the event talking about what records to pull. All of them collectively figure out how to cram in everyone’s favorites in one evening. Those smiles up there are genuine. They truly love coming out of retirement for an evening to continue making memories with you.
This year we’ve got two rooms. Don’t like that song, but wanna keep dancing? Head into the other room. You can even dance the whole way there.

I hope this tips a few of you off the fence. If you haven’t made it to a Nostalgia event yet, you really should come this year.
We all can't wait to see you, you know. I personally plan on administering a LOT of hugs!
