This week on Cocktails and Conversations we dive into the rich history of Saint Clements Castle & Marina. Discover the timeless elegance and storied past of the estate on your venue tour or next visit! Looking for a historic estate venue with enchanting gardens, beautiful indoor spaces, and stunning river views? Look no further than Saint Clements Castle & Marina! Voiceover Caption: It all started back in 1898 with the Taylor Family. Howard Taylor, a prominent lawyer in Manhattan at the time, and his wife Gertude had been in search for the perfect place to build their summer home. They settled on this beautiful property nestled upon a bluff overlooking the Connecticut River. With inspiration from grand castles and estates in Europe, the Taylor’s along with architect Algernon Sidey Bell, created plans for the castle and gardens that stand here today. Construction was completed on November 23rd,1902, which was coincidentally both Howard Taylor’s Birthday and the feast day of Pope Clement I, who later became the patron saint of stonework and masonry. The architect thought it fitting to name the estate Saint Clements Castle in his honor. This estate became the perfect place for the Taylor family’s sunny summers spent on the Connecticut River. The first wedding reception held on property was on June 17th, 1915, for Eleanor Taylor, Howard and Gertrudes daughter. At the time, it was the largest social event to have taken place in the area, and unknowingly foreshadowed the many weddings to come in this beautiful place we get to make more memories in.
