my sincerest apologies for the lack of updates on autumn screenprinting classes (I can reassure you that I am working hard at getting everything set up ASAP) BUT I have a peace offering and it's a carrd website I put together featuring over 100 active local organizations with a focus on those seeking helping hands. It's still a work in progress but I've made significant progress over the past few days thanks to the help of a few submissions + my brain being addicted to list making.

STYLE & SAFETY MASK LAB

Come explore mask styles Decorate holiday masks Fit testing (optional) Take home gifts!

Mask-required event Please wear the best one you can & consider an upgrade this winter

WHAT TO EXPЕСТ:

Bring NEW, unused N95s in styles you've tried before & dislike. (What didn't work for you may be perfect for someone else!)

Free N95s will be available to take home. If you need dozens, please do stock up! (Thank you MaskBlockPDX and all private donors)

Everyone who shows up will be given a holiday gift when they leave. (HINT: They're not religious & great for sharing, year-round)

Volunteers are bringing fit test kits for use outside. (There will be NO unmasking inside the event space)

Additional air purifiers will be set up indoors Air quality will be monitored via aranet4. (Thank you Clean Air Committee!)

Learn about air filtration (and/or TRY ON) different styles of masks, elastomeric respirators, and how to decorate them.

TESTING INFO:

All fit tests will occur outdoors, behind the venue, in a covered space. Make sure you dress warm enough for the weather, so you stay cozy.

It is important to know your covid19 status!!! We encourage c19 testing less than 6hrs before your arrival (IF possible)

Free tests can be picked up ahead of time at numerous hubs around the city (or possibly delivered)

bit.ly/FreeTest411

Rapid tests will be available at the event for take-home or use outdoors, only. It's much better to self-test out front, than not test at all.

Bring a photo of your recent NEGATIVE test result for entry into a drawing!! One entry per person. Must be present @4:30pm on 12/7 to win

Please do not show up if you're newly symptomatic with ANY cold-like illness, even if/when a test result said negative. Stay home. Trust your body more than the swabs.

Send a message to pdxmasklibrary+[email protected] For rescheduling

Small mask decor kits will be gifted to people who were unable to attend on 12/7 due to positive covid test results

🌬️✨ Portland Clean Air Committee is on a mission to improve air quality in our community! Our current goal is to raise $1,500, and every contribution, big or small, helps us "filter" through the challenges and expand our lending program. The great thing about that goal, is that we ALREADY have dozens of air purifiers in our stash... but most of them currently need new filters before they're fully-functional. As soon as donations start coming, we'll be able to increase the number of machines we can offer. (We have 4 ready to roll!!)

PCAC is proud to be a fiscally-sponsored project of YWCA of Greater Portland. All donations are tax-deductible.

No money? No worries!
Tag some friends,
and tell more people about PCAC❗️

We’re on the lookout for volunteers who want to help PCAC make a positive impact—whether it's through social media, machine maintenance, or other roles.

Let’s GOOOOOOOO!

from : "Our Portland class is now every Friday night! (starting 11/22/2024) These sessions are free, funded by the community via

Masks are required, and will be provided. Don't wear scents. The gym is shoes-off. Wear clothes you can move in (like a tshirt and gym shorts, with no hard zippers or studs). Expect to sign a Unicorn Jiu Jitsu waiver if it's your first time.

7:30pm - intros & mobility flow

7:45pm - training games (think: team freeze tag plus foam footballs)

8:00pm - technique lesson (usually: grappling while talking)

8:15pm - breakout groups & skillshare & open mat (ie. learn to spar, punch bags, or hang out)

You are welcome to bring a dedicated training partner and work exclusively with that person. You can also just sit and listen to the lesson without participating. You can skip the lesson and just come for the skillshare at the end. There will be a non-LGBTQ class wrapping up at 7:30, and it's ok to come late if you want to avoid crossing paths.

The class is open to all LGBTQIAA+, including questioning & allies, so please don't worry about being queer/trans enough to attend. The technique lessons will be from the Traction Project Curriculum, which was developed for trans women who are BIPOC or sex-workers, and prioritizes controlling the repercussions of defending yourself (so expect it to be much different from mainstream self defense).

The lead instructor for Portland classes is Scout Tran (ey/em/eir), editor of "A Self-Defense Guide for Trans Women" available through Silver Sprocket. You can view many of eir lessons about verbal & strategic defense on tiktok at or traction-project.org/ downloads. The breakout groups & skillshare at the end of class is an opportunity to learn from other people besides Scout - if you're an experienced martial artist, consider leading a breakout group!

features large, clean mats, non-gendered single changing rooms, and plenty of parking. It is all first floor (no stairs), but scents are present.

THREE MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT MUTUAL AID AND DONATING

Misconception 1:

I'm going to get scammed if I donate.

The truth:

It's not that far-fetched to consider that there are more people who need help right now than people who don't. So your chances of being scammed are slim. There are ways to vet people, but the real threat is a distrust of community that leads to their needs not being met.

Misconception 2:

They're going to spend their money unwisely.

The truth:

Is that for you to decide? After all, do we spend our money wisely always?

Are we not deserving of resources still?

Do corporations not spend their money in evil ways daily, yet we continue to support them, even when we don't have to?

Misconception 3:

It's just passing the same $5 back and forth.

The truth:

It is true that the working class seems to fund itself most of the time. But some in the mid-to-upper-class do donate to direct causes, especially if a loved one can convince them it is important. Not all of us who donate are in urgent need. Keep sharing fundraisers with people directly who you know make more money.

Despite mutual aid's importance, it will not single-handedly save us. We will save us, by organizing workers and community members to create a society that demands what it needs and doesn't take any less.
