Hey everyone! I'll be modifying hours moving forward. There's a bit of a transitionary period until everything gets settled, but my goal is to be open Wednesday - Saturday from 2pm - 9pm.

Hey Portland, Adam here.

I just wanted to make a post about some changes at DIY BAR. We are SO grateful to be here after 7.5 years of business and so grateful to have made it through COVID.

Well, Jason made it though COVID, and I had to get another job, but we're still here!

We are a small business, and any small business owner will tell you that what we do isn’t easy, but we do it because we believe in it and love it. 

During COVID we saw so many places lay-off and even permanently shut their doors. We are experiencing similar sales numbers to the pandemic, and in emergency situations we need to take emergency measures to keep DIY BAR alive. The start of this year has slowed to a point where we are no longer able to employ our awesome team. =(

Until business stabilizes I will be stepping into the bar, so you'll be seeing a lot more of me.

As temps start to heat up, we typically start to slow down. We rarely run sales, instead we have a pretty awesome loyalty program, where the more you visit and spend, the more you get back.

Tomorrow, 6/6 at 6pm our neighborhood will be having an art walk, and at the end you can stop by and make a scrap leather luggage tag from us, for free! 🧳

Come check out some local art from some local artists, and make yourself a little something! 🧑‍🎨🎨

The starting spot and prefunk are at the Mason Williams (Apartment Building). The prefunk is from 4-6, and the art walk starts at 6! There will be light refreshments and art from the residents at the prefunk. 🥳🕺

Hope you all had a great Mother's Day! We're excited to partner with Abby Ruston for her Live Edge Mirror Workshop on Father's Day!

5/22 - Visible Mending Workshop - $100

Learn the basics of mending on knit and woven fabrics! Bring in clothing you want mended (but isn't too precious)! You will learn to identify knit vs woven and receive instruction on how to best fix your clothing.

Workshop includes:
-Thread
-Needle
-Fabric for patches
-In-person instruction and personal advice on your specific mending

Taught By: Lee Babb who has worked with textiles for most of their life! Lee has a bachelor's degree in Art Practices with a personal focus in fiber arts

5/23 - Clay Sugar Skull Workshop - $58

Pinch, form, and shape one of earth's most fun materials, clay! In this workshop you'll transform some clay into a Sugar Skull (approximately 4in x 5in) using some very beginner friendly techniques.

Taught by: Verónica Arquilevich Guzman from Maya Ceramics. Verónica is a Mexican artist living in Portland. Her pieces are based on magical realism, mixing fantastic art and the transfiguration of the dream that integrates the paths of the unreal and the fantastic.

Celebrate Father's Day!

Abby will bring everything you need to create your live edge mirror! She will be right there to answer any questions you have have and help guide you throughout the workshop!

You will be creating a 10"x10" finished mirror. You will also be adding hanging wire so your mirror will be ready to be shown off!

Taught by: Abby Ruston, a contemporary woodworker based in Portland, Oregon. Her work incorporates the principles of Kintsugi, Wabi Sabi and Shou Sugi Ban.

Himmeli Workshop 3/20 and 3/28!

Learn to make a modern himmeli air plant holder to welcome spring. Himmeli (Finnish for sky) were traditionally made of straw or reeds and were hung over the dinner table near the winter holidays to bring a good harvest the next year. Let’s get our himmeli up and hope for a good spring!

The workshop comes with everything you need to make two himmeli, plus an air plant!

Avoid the wilds of your local chain stores, and join us for a very chill shopping experience.

Shop, sip, and snack at our Holiday Maker Market! The courtyard behind us will transform into a festive wonderland.

We'll have different makers in each weekend, so each weekend will be its own unique experience. After our market, make your way up North Williams Ave to meander around our neighbors' shops, and check out their wares!
