All eyes on you! You ready?!👀👀👀
👉🏽Ways to calm your nerves and look like pros during this big moment/your first dance:

1. Breathe.
2. Listen to your music. Key in on words connected to specific moves in your dance to help keep you on tempo if you’re feeling anxious or excited and are starting to rush things.
3. Focus on your partner and pretend no one else is in the room. Let the pressure fade away.
4. Ahead on timing? Throw a kiss in there! Not only will this add a sweet romantic touch into your routine to get you back on track but kissing releases oxytocin which can help make you feel warm and fuzzy again.
5. Practice a TON leading up to this day so you can relax and enjoy your dance instead of trying to remember what move comes next.
6. Let go. Feel the music, be present in the moment and if you take a misstep, keep going! Your LOVE for each other is really what everyone’s staring at, not your feet.

Happy pride month!🌈🫶🏼

Celebrating everyone for all that they are, whoever they choose to love and however they choose to be, today and always. If you lead with love and kindness you’re a friend in my book. Also thinking of these two beauties today, Erika & Bianca, who just celebrated their one year anniversary! They’re still on record as the quickest dance learners I’ve ever had and man did they perfect their routine👌🏽😍I love this first picture of them smiling so huge. It makes me smile too! Joy is contagious.

If you are a vendor who supports and stands up for the LGBTQIA+ community 🏳️‍🌈 throw a 🌈 in the comments below! LOVE to all and for all✊🏽

Not the best picture (hey, I’m no photographer) but wanted to jump on here to remind you that I’m still offering virtual lessons! And here’s why this one in particular was awesome:

Cali & Brian finished learning their first dance in person with me a few weeks ago and Cali wanted dance lessons for her father/daughter dance. However, her dad Stuart lives in Seattle. So we set up this zoom session where Cali’s fiance Brian stood in for Cali’s dad in Portland and Cali’s mom stood in for Cali and danced with dad in Seattle. Why do I feel like this is even better than if Cali & Stuart had taken their father daughter dance lessons together in person in Portland? Because now in addition to Cali & her dad dancing a sweet father/daughter dance combo, Cali’s parents can dance at the wedding together and Brian and Cali also have a new style they can whip out on the dance floor. That’s three couples learning to dance instead of one! So don’t knock zoom. Sometimes the virtual sessions give you more than you might think😉

Samantha & Spencer did everything right for their first dance. They started lessons early, practiced frequently and asked questions about details to clean and polish their routine. What they didn’t expect was for their DJ to play the wrong version of their song on their wedding day!😬Oops. But, we planned for that. Part of the learning process with me is planning for and troubleshooting potential mistakes and pitfalls on the day of, which although we hope won’t happen sometimes do. Please peep my IG stories to read more about what happened and see Samantha’s kind review.

I’m so excited to share that PNW Wedding Dance just won “Best Conversation Starter” in PNW Weddings Magazine’s 2024 Excellence Awards. This is a big deal and allllll thanks to you. Whether you voted, or told a friend about me or took dance lessons with me - you’re why I’m here. And I am grateful for you and your support. To win an award for doing what I love just feels…surreal. And so special. Thank you so so much.

To celebrate this award I’m sharing some of my top stand-out photos and moments from over the years. Of course I can’t showcase every person and project that touched my heart or put the “wow” factor on fire but these are just a few snaps of some dances that I know had people talking for quite some time after.

Dance is a very unique language that connects people universally. It has been there for me during the best and worst times of my life to help me work through and express my feelings, heal and grow. To share this gift with others as they enter into a life and future together is the ultimate honor. Thank you for dancing with me!

Jumping for joy! So stoked to share that PNW Wedding Dance has been nominated as a finalist in the “Conversation Starters” category for the PNW Weddings Magazine Excellence Awards! You put those dancing shoes on, girl!💃🏻✨

To follow up on my previous post about dresses, let’s talk footwear for your dance. What should you wear? Answer: Whatever you want! It’s your wedding day, remember? I’m not going to tell you what to wear and I can work with whatever your heart desires. Here are a few tips, however, that I share with all my brides:

-Choose something you’ll be comfortable in. Your first dance typically happens hours after your ceremony, so keep that in mind if four inch heels are your style.

-As Maria chose (pictured here) you can CHANGE! Wear those high heels for your ceremony and photos and then get comfy for the rest of the night in sneaks so you can really let loose on the dance floor.

-Whatever you decide to wear (or not wear) on your feet, practice your dance this way. Break in your shoes so you can feel where they might give you grief the day of or dance barefoot on concrete. You want to ensure you’re not hobbling around in pain on your special day.

Can we hear it for THE DRESS?!😍💃🏻😍

Do I think about your dress and how it will flow as I choreograph? The answer is yes. Lots of hips and twisting for a shorter, fringy number, and big sweeping movements for a fuller skirt that demands attention. Your dress can either look like it’s getting in the way or ADD to your performance. I work with you to ensure it’s the latter.

Which dip is your fav? One (the classic dip), two (the pretzel dip) or three (the side dip)?

Dips are so romantic. And like lifts there are tons of them with varying levels of difficulty. The key to mastering a dip with your partner is mutual trust, which we build over the course of our lessons through technique and repetition. As you can see here, Mike & Emma mastered this. Love these two!🥰

2024 is here and all I have to say is that I’m sorry, I’m still so behind on posting🙈The end of 2023 was wild and while I do not have any grand resolutions for the new year I do know one big thing I learned from 2023 (well something I already knew but became much more apparent)…and that is that everyone is fighting a battle that you know nothing about. So in the words of the Dalai Lama I share with you my focus and my hope of something simple but important that we can all focus on and achieve in the year ahead: “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.”

Now, moving onto Gillian & Owen’s incredible day! It’s fairly ironic that these are the first shots I’ve chosen to share with you because this day was anything but void of color. However I love a good turn sequence😉😍Swipe to the end to get a tease of some of the vibrancy from this super special, personalized day and I promise to share more in the weeks (or months?🤪) ahead. Also peep my Instagram stories for Gillian’s sweet review🥹🫶🏼Thanks girl! Please join me in congratulating these two authentic, beautiful souls💍

I just had my last lesson of the year last night so this feels like a good time to say adieu until 2024. PNW Wedding Dance exploded again this year! And all I have to say is wow - and a heartfelt thank you. When I started this business years ago I did so on a hope and a feeling. The hope that people would like what I created and the feeling of pure elation when I teach, dance and see my choreography come to life. Dance is a bright light in this sometimes dark world. It has been there for me through the best and worst times of my life, as a form of therapy and expression. To give that gift to others through teaching is simply a dream come true. Thank you to all my amazing couples, vendors friends and everyone who has touched my life & lifted up this business in the last year and beyond. This is my passion and I am forever grateful. Wishing you all the happiest of holidays. Can’t wait to hit the ground running (or dancing rather😉🕺🏼) in the New Year!🎉

You know what couples often ask me for help with? Their “just married” newlywed walk down the aisle and dip. I’m always so thrilled and happy to. The more you practice ANYTHING for your wedding, the chances it will turn out so much better the day of. Z & A are prime examples of that🙌🏼🤩🎉

I’ve decided I’m going to take the next month or so off from posting. I need a break and I really want to soak in my most favorite spooky season and time of the year. We’ll also be celebrating my daughter Makena’s 1st birthday in just a couple weeks! So I’ll be back after a little pumpkin patching and partying. Happy fall, y’all!🍂🎃🤘🏽

I recently came across this quote and thought it was too good not to share. Another great reason to dance! Like we needed more😉

“The average duration of a hug between two people is 3 seconds. But researchers discovered when a hug lasts 20 seconds, it produces a therapeutic effect on the body and mind.

A sincere hug produced oxytocin, the love hormone.

This wonderful tranquilizer is offered for free every time you take a person in your arms, cradle a child, caress an animal or dance with your partner. 20 seconds. Mindful, present therapy for both parties.” ~ Nicole Bordeleau

08/15/2023

Taking a break from my regular wedding posting. As you all are, I am completely heartbroken to see the devastation the fires created on the Hawaiian islands, in particular in Lahaina on Maui. I visited Maui for my first time in 2019 on our babymoon and fell in love with the island so deeply that we named our second daughter, now 9 months old, Makena after Makena beach. I also have friends there who are suffering losses, some who have family who has lived there for generations. As you know, life is forever altered for so many who live on Maui. The depth of the damage done is simply unfathomable and gut wrenching.

I want to do something to help so I figured why not honor the culture and people of Hawai’i by teaching a hula? I first learned hula in college and it is still my favorite style of dance to date. Please join me this Sunday, August 20th from 10:30-11:30am at the to learn a beginning/intermediate hula. ALL ages are welcome, no dance experience is required and this will be a free event with the suggested donation of $15 per person (you can donate through your own channels or I will be donating 100% of all money received to the “Maui Strong” fund via the Hawai’i Community Foundation) We will be dancing barefoot outside. Wear shorts and bring a sarong to wear if you have one (the larger ones are better for tying). Please share this post and RSVP by either messaging me here or via email at [email protected] . I’ll need at least 10 people signed up by end of day Friday to make this happen. Let’s come together to help the many people who have lost so much and to show our support and love to and for Hawai’i through my favorite means of expression and healing - dance.

Hello friends and former clients! It's taken me MONTHS to finally make this change on Facebook but I’m excited to share that you will now see that this page is no longer PDX Flash Mob, but instead PNW Wedding Dance! PDX Flash Mob is still alive and well...I am just shifting all marketing to PNW Wedding Dance (and being really picky about which flash mob projects I take on). Please check out my new website. I am fully booked for June & July but still have a few openings left in August & September. I recommend fiances get started on their wedding dances at least 2 months before their big date. Thanks so much for all your support over the years. I am very grateful and excited about this new business and chapter. All the love! -Nikki

2021 wasn’t without it’s challenges, but that didn’t mean we couldn’t get creative in order to have some fun too😉🤠Love reliving Kaya & Geoff’s reception where they kindly invited us to lead their guests in line dancing. We got the dance floor rockin’ and vibed off this wedding long after it was over.
