As of the start of 2023, NW Creatives is officially a 1% for the Planet® Business Member.

Over the past few years especially, we've realized how easy it is to take our beautiful natural spaces for granted — and how fragile they really are. Our local wedding industry greatly benefits from the abundance of natural beauty that surrounds us on all sides, but that abundance isn't guaranteed.

We decided it was time to commit a small part of our annual revenue (revenue, not profit) to help protect our beautiful planet.

1% for the Planet works to prevent greenwashing, certify reputable
giving, and provide accountability for environmental giving. Currently, only 3% of philanthropic giving goes to protect the environment. Our planet needs more support and the 1% for the Planet® network is on a mission to change that.

Vendor friends, if this is something you've ever thought about doing, we'd be happy to share our experience with starting our membership! It was really easy and now we wonder why we didn't join sooner.

Several years ago, I got a cold email from a freelance videographer looking to get some second shooting gigs. I replied to him the same way I reply to every email like that, saying, “I don’t have anything for you at the moment, but I’d be happy to meet up for coffee if you ever want to talk shop. Maybe something will come up down the road.”

It’s important to note that I find myself in email exchanges like this almost on a weekly basis. But since we’re very careful about who we bring on our weddings, I would never offer a gig to someone without meeting them first.

So, I NEVER reply with a gig, but I ALWAYS reply with an offer to meet.

Only once has anyone taken me up on that offer. And that person was Scott.

Fast forward to now, I’ve lost count of how many weddings Scott has worked with NW Creatives, as a second shooter and a lead. In six years, it has to be getting close to a hundred.

Undoubtedly, our work has improved because of him.

Without meaning to, he weaseled his way into becoming an integral part of this little business, all starting with one email.

Anyway, thanks to , we finally got this good team photo so I figured it’d be a good excuse to share this bromantic letter.

Getting aligned with your vendor team ahead of time can make all the difference. It's become a standard part of our process to reach out to photographers before every wedding and start to develop that chemistry and find out how we can work WITH each other, and not against. A quick email can go a long way.

This year, we're rolling out a new thing: Engagement Videos. We love helping couples celebrate their love stories, whether that's on the wedding day or in the midst of the anticipation and excitement leading up to it. ⠀

Here's our first one with Paige and Quinn.

These two got up early with me to catch a sunrise at Smith Rock. They read letters to each other and spent the morning hiking through the rugged landscape of one of Oregon's great wonders, celebrating this special time of their life as they anticipate their wedding next summer (also at Smith Rock). It was such a fun way to build hype and get friends and family excited to party with them next July!⠀

Last month we did something a bit different. Not a wedding, but equally worth celebrating (or maybe more so). One of our first ever wedding clients from 2014 asked us to come film the adoption day for the two boys they've been fostering for the last few years. They got dressed up at their home in Bellingham, WA, surprised the boys with a limo ride to the courthouse, and met with the Judge to make their family official.⠀

I had never been involved with anything like this before, and it was truly amazing to witness. The love this family shares for each other is obvious, and the heart these two new parents have for children in the foster system is inspiring.⠀

I love filming weddings because I they are one of life's big wins, and we something we should celebrate... but this, this feels like another level. Anyone out there who has adopted, hopes to adopt, or is currently going through that process, I hope you know that you're heroes. And anyone who has an adoption day in the future and wants to make a video, call me. I'd love to do this again.⠀
