When I shoot the life around here, its really cool how different things will treat me. During the middle of the day on these shots,

Bees are focused on getting work done and could care less about me.

The ladybug was curious but not enough to do more than peek.

The grasshopper was the most curious and ended up photobombing a shor on the white flower.

The dragonfly was very curious but I had to move slow and it wouldn't stick around.

The wasp was trying to take care of some aphids and was slightly annoyed I was interupting but tollerated a moment before leaving.

"Self portrait in Purple." Although this image is traditionally considered a macro of a flower, to me, it represents the most accurate self-portrait I've ever taken. We always look to faces, thats how we identify each other. But this is more honest of who I am when alone.

And it was a serendipidous moment, I was shielding the flower from the wind, and had to get so close my hand was in the shot.

In the labyrinth of life, we often find ourselves at the crossroads of light and shadow, searching for a path that leads us back to ourselves. During a period marked by personal upheaval, as I navigated the tumultuous waters of medication withdrawal, my world was shrouded in a fog of uncertainty. Sharing this part of my story is a step beyond my comfort zone. It's an invitation to look beyond the art and glimpse the raw, unfiltered essence of the human I took theae during a struggle that many of us face but seldom speak of—the fight to find our way back from the precipice of despair. Each frame tells a story of chaos, of the moments when everything seems to unravel, yet also of those fleeting instances of lucidity where the world makes sense again. The light trails, like the thoughts that raced through my mind, weave a complex tapestry that mirrors the inner turmoil of those days. But why share this now? Because art, in its most authentic form, is a reflection of life. It's about turning our most profound experiences, our darkest nights, and our brightest days, into something that others can see, feel, and maybe even find solace in. These images are my way of saying, 'You're not alone.' We all have our battles, our moments of clarity amidst the chaos, and our paths back to light. Stunt fighting choreogrqphy directed by @birdskullstudios at @fightsandcrafts in Beaverton, OR. Practicing high frame rate, changing clip speeds, and cut ins on action. It's getting there. Now for my DP PSA: During my ongoing work with @fightsandcrafts to practice and learn fight choreography and camerawork, I had a very sobering reality. As much as I focus on safety as a priority, even refusing to shoot scenes where it seemed at all risky, I could have easily been shot or stabbed if the team at Fights and Crafts wasn't so knowledgeable and perceptive. Shout out to @billy_dunston275 and @birdskullstudios l for their persistence, it is so hard when shooting wide angle lenses to stop yourself from taking one more step forward, which I did more often than I realized. @fightsandcrafts is the only group of local stunt, fight choregraphy, and on set stunt safety coordinators I know of, and they will help anyone learn and be safe on set. Seriously, you don't know how lucky you might have been even shooting the simplest stunts until you have someone trained to work with. When you have a local resource that can help, there is no excuse. Let's not be the hard lesson for everyone else, sometimes the smallest mistakes are permanent.
