It was great seeing LeMans Karting racer, Laura Hayes, being celebrated at this weekend’s Cars & Coffee Greenville SC. Two month ago, she won the GT4 class at the Pikes Peak Int’l Hillclimb, and now holds the record of ‘Fastest Woman Up the Mountain’… no small feat considering that 4th generation racer Loni Unser and IndyCar driver Katherine Legge are part of this mix. Run consistently since 1916, Pike Peak has attracted many F1, Indy, NASCAR and other world champion drivers.

Round 2 is in the books!! We had 11 drivers competing in 4 different classes tonight. From a marshal’s perspective, it was a clean and tight race and a few battles in between.

Let’s start with the Pro Class:

Cameron Oberle & Adrian Rodriguez fought hard over #1 position during the entire race. Each pit stop gave the other driver the lead. Back and forth the entire night between these two. Around lap 41, Cameron made his last pit stop with just the right amount of cushion, he was able to pit and get himself back out in front of Adrian to hold on to #1 position for the final 13 laps to capture the Checkered Flag!! This is Cameron’s FIRST ENDURO WIN and he takes the top podium spot!!

CONGRATS CAMERON!!!

Now the AM Class:

Rookie Driver, Aaron Hogland captured P2 in qualifying and never looked back! He was chased by 3 other Rookie drivers, Caio Ghiotto kept his momentum and trailed Aaron for about half of the race. Aaron didn’t look back and pushed forward and set the fastest overall lap time of 44.600 (and this was his personal best time too!) Aaron left his class behind and started to battle with Pro drivers, Adrian & Cameron. Keeping a close draft on those two and he managed to average a low 46.1 second pace. Congrats Aaron on that flying fast pace lap to achieve a 44.600

Other battles:

PRO/SR driver, Joshua Young had kart malfunction and he pitted his kart but that didn’t stop him from making a comeback to finish in top 5 overall. He battled with Ryan Agola for most of the first half of the race, kept himself right on Joshua’s tail. Ryan was getting too eager and made a move to the inside and found himself nose-first into the apex, then trailing Rookie driver, Keri Fleischer said Thank you very much…and she moved in on Joshua, trailing him and drafting his kart. She let him know that she was there by repeat bumps on the straight and she was waiting patiently to make her move on Joshua but with Joshua’s experience…she had to earn the position. Defensive driving kept Joshua holding his spot and trailing behind them was Caio Ghiotto, who was lowering the time gap, trying to catch those two.

Overall, this round was very good to watch, only two yellows on Pro Track, due to solo spin outs. But other than that, good race from all 11 drivers.

Well, we are back with a new racing season. Today was Round 1 and its off with a bang!! We have 6 rookie drivers starting off their season with us. The AM CLASS is going to be the group to watch this season. They started off with some great racing. The rookies put down a good show with great passes and overtakes, something you expect to see from the PRO LEVEL Drivers.

Qualifying started off great with PRO Driver, Cameron Oberle put down some fast laps to take P1. PRO Driver, Dmitry Sviridov had some difficult time with his kart, struggled lap after lap but not fast enough to keep up with the entire field, finishing last in qualifying…an interesting start for his new season.

The AM CLASS rookies battled for qualifying positions, putting down very close lap times between the 6 of them. Timothy Dobson ended up in P1 for AM CLASS. His personal best for “Qualifying”.

In the Enduro Race, we seen some battles with PRO CLASS drivers, Cameron & Dmitry. Cameron was holding his position in P1, while Dmitry, 7 positions back, working his way through “rookie” traffic. Pit Stops were going to be very critical, with 8 drivers on PRO TRACK, passing and pitting would decide your fate. The PRO CLASS battled back and forth trading the lead, all during their pit stops.

As for the AM CLASS, they had their battles as well. Rookies, Ryan & Timothy battled each other with some great passes and defensive driving. Overtakes were challenging due to lapped traffic making things difficult for them. With clean passing, tight drafts, helped them get back out in front to continue their own battle for positions. Pit Stops were a key factor for both of them.

This race had no yellow flags, no red flags. Fantastic Rookie Race and a “head to head” PRO Battle, made for a race to watch, to kick off the new racing season.
