Dahlias are the fireworks of flowers. They’re the absolute showstoppers of the flower world, but they don’t last long.

For me, they’re also a year-long crop, meaning that once they’re finished blooming, I dig them up, divide the tubers, and store them for winter. These *highly organized* tubs of tubers have spent the last couple months resting in my flower cooler. Now they’re warming inside the house to wake up!

Once I select which ones I need to plant for the upcoming season, the rest will be sold at The Willow Collaborative Spring Market in May!

That’s right: I do the hard work, and you get to enjoy your own dahlia patch AND support an amazing organization that supports women in Powhatan.

Spring will be here before we know it!

I was working on sorting the flowers by bloom time for a wedding florist friend last night but just realized I FORGOT THE ROSES! Last year my David Austin garden roses were an amazing and fragrant addition to my DIY buckets. And guess what? I have 10 more in the ground this year! I absolutely can’t wait to see them all in bloom (unless I cut them first 🤗).

Fresh flowers aren’t even blooming this time of year in Central Virginia, which means that *most* Valentine’s Day flowers are imported from South America and *aren’t fresh.* Did you know that imported flowers can go up to a week without water?! And don’t even get me started on the chemical fertilizers that are used to grow them and the pesticides they’re doused in to even get them into the country. Sheesh!

We still have a few spots available for this year’s Spring Tulip Subscription. Happy New Year!

I’m in the beginning phases of figuring out how to bring a space for our many local flower farmers to sell locally-grown, fresh flowers in the form of a centrally-located flower stand. Food Lion blooms just aren’t cutting it, and as a flower farmer myself, I know how hard it can be to get day-of flowers into your hands!

Yes, there are MANY details to work out, but first things first, I need to find a spot with really awesome owners to put such a flower stand.

Who knows of a spot like this?
-Somewhere near the area in the map (along rt. 60 between Maidens & Academy Rd. or in the village of Powhatan)
-A private residence or a small, supportive business
-Space for 2-3 cars to park
-Some sort of shade, especially in the afternoon

A couple other things to note:
-This would definitely include a lease agreement for the yard space
-The afore mentioned awesome owners (and probably whoever can help me with this) will be showered with flowers
