Princeton University Concerts

Princeton University Concerts Experience the world's most celebrated musicians—among friends. Follow us to stay in the loop on our many events!

Our upcoming 124th season brims with nonstop surprises through programming spanning everything from 17th-century “pub music” performed on period instruments with beer accompaniment (Barokksolistene) to a Galician bagpipe virtuoso (Cristina Pato, of the Silk Road Ensemble) exploring Latino music. The programs will both welcome back veterans of PUC -- including the Brentano String Quartet with speci

al guest pianist Jonathan Biss; the Tenebrae Choir; the Artemis String Quartet; the Danish String Quartet, among others -- and will invite new names both of rising stars, such as 24-year-old pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, and some of the most legendary figures in the field, such as pianist Sir András Schiff. A special event, "Shostakovich and The Black Monk,” a musical-theatre piece co-commisioned by PUC featuring the Emerson String Quartet and seven actors, will showcase our commitment to leading the charge in innovative concert presentation through multimedia experiments, flexible concert formats, and unorthodox collaborations.

Today we honor and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy. In his own writings, Dr. King recognized music as an “instrument of change” and “the soul of the [Civil Rights] movement.” His wife, Coretta Scott King, studied voice and piano at the New England Conservatory () and performed “Freedom Concerts” as part of their cause.

Take a listen to our MLK Day playlist on Spotify with music that both inspired and was inspired by this extraordinary preacher, organizer, and Nobel Laureate. You can access all our Collective Listening Project playlists via the link in our bio.

EXTRA! EXTRA! 📰 has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Grants for Arts Projects award of $20,000! This grant, the first in PUC’s history, will support PUC’s Healing with Music series.

“This grant award is a historic moment for Princeton University Concerts,” adds PUC’s Artistic and Executive Director Marna Seltzer. “For 131 years, our programming has been mostly made possible by the generosity of our patrons. To have the support of the National Endowment for the Arts for the very first time is not just vital financial reinforcement but also important recognition for the work that we do to expand the impact and accessibility of classical chamber music.”

“We are thrilled to have received this national recognition for our Healing with Music program,” says Dasha Koltunyuk, PUC’s Outreach Manager who conceived of the Healing with Music series. “These events, which delve into music’s deep power through a unique and collective concert experience, tap into something essential in today’s world. Kayhan Kalhor is a phenomenal artist and human, who has approached his life and art with such an inspiring depth of sensitivity and spirit of hope. We thank the NEA for acknowledging the power of our Healing with Music series and of this artist with their support.”

The funding will support the appearance of Iranian kamancheh player on Wednesday, February 12 at 7:30PM for the conclusion of the 2024-25 Healing with Music Series. He will join international correspondent .deb for “Finding Home in the Music of Iran,” a conversation permeated by live performance centered on Kalhor’s dedication to Iranian music through profound loss, anti-Muslim sentiment, and political unrest.

This event will be amplified by Kalhor’s performances as part of a free Live Music Meditation on Thursday, February 13 at 12:30PM and in concert with the DoosTrio (.trio) at 6PM & 9PM.
