#PUCsoundBites: More love for study breaks, @musicprincetonu courses, and #Beethoven from a @princeton undergraduate student at last week’s concert with violinist @jamesehnes and pianist @orionweiss_piano

#PUCsoundBites: Sarah points out how our concert last week with violinist James Ehnes and pianist Orion Weiss was not only a welcome break from studying for her and her friends but also HELPED her study for finals!
Good luck to Sarah, her Department of Music at Princeton University classmates, and all Princeton University undergraduates on their Fall 2024 semester final exams!

Our turn to give you a round of applause!
Thank you for your support of our work all year round, and thank you for helping us exceed our #GivingTuesday goal yesterday!
Our goal was to raise $2,600 — $20 for each year of our 130-year existence. We raised $3,535, plus an additional $2,000 thanks to a generous donation-matching pledge from our Committee member Reba Orszag. That brings the total Giving Tuesday tally to $5,353!
THANK YOU!
As with any non-profit presenting organization, ticket sales only cover a small fraction of our production expenses. We are committed to "securing for Princeton audiences better music than they could otherwise afford," as decreed by Philena Fobes Fine in our original charter, by offering the lowest ticket prices in the region.
You can make a year-end, tax-deductible donation to PUC by visiting puc.princeton.edu/support or the link in our bio or by calling us at 609-258-2800.

“Part of my practice is imagining musical family trees and learning from the influences of my influences... I gravitate towards forgotten songs, early or maligned instruments, and languages and performance styles on the brink of extinction. I bring this process of excavation into my own writing, blending old and new, exploring language and mythology. I have been making the unoriginal yet concerted effort to move beyond categorizing music by genre. What I am interested in is exploring, celebrating, and making fun of desire, divulging secrets, dredging up the past, looking under the rug.” —Cecile McLorin Salvant

#PUCsoundBites: “What does home mean to you?”
We asked this of our audience members after our opening event of our 2024-25 #HealingWithMusic series and the opening performance of our season, “Syria: Art in a Time of Crisis.” During this event, Syrian clarinetist @kinan_azmeh and Syrian-Armenian visual artist @kevork_mourad presented their originalwork “Home Within,” a reflection on the Syrian revolution and its aftermath, and then joined award-winning international correspondent @amos.deb to discuss the impact of war on our sense of “home,” and how they use image and sound to establish a sense of sustained urgency and continued hope for both their homeland and communities around the world.
Thank you, Somar, for sharing your reflections with us and for attending this event with your brother.
