Princeton University Concerts

Princeton University Concerts Experience the world's most celebrated musicians—among friends. Follow us to stay in the loop on our many events!

Our upcoming 124th season brims with nonstop surprises through programming spanning everything from 17th-century “pub music” performed on period instruments with beer accompaniment (Barokksolistene) to a Galician bagpipe virtuoso (Cristina Pato, of the Silk Road Ensemble) exploring Latino music. The programs will both welcome back veterans of PUC -- including the Brentano String Quartet with speci

al guest pianist Jonathan Biss; the Tenebrae Choir; the Artemis String Quartet; the Danish String Quartet, among others -- and will invite new names both of rising stars, such as 24-year-old pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, and some of the most legendary figures in the field, such as pianist Sir András Schiff. A special event, "Shostakovich and The Black Monk,” a musical-theatre piece co-commisioned by PUC featuring the Emerson String Quartet and seven actors, will showcase our commitment to leading the charge in innovative concert presentation through multimedia experiments, flexible concert formats, and unorthodox collaborations.

This time last year, we were welcoming musician and Emmy Award-winning writer —a TOTAL power couple!—to the PUC series to appear on our series.

Today, Jon Batiste released a new album called “Beethoven Blues.” We admire how Jon pushes the boundaries of what we define as “chamber music” and explores new contexts for classical music. He does this in his work more broadly, and particularly with this album! We encourage you all to take a listen!

Prior to vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant and her ensemble's performance of "Book of Ayres" last night, we hosted a reception for members of our new ticket access program for low-income patrons!

Addressing attendees, PUC Director Marna Seltzer said:
"I find myself reflecting on how, since our inception in 1894, our mission has been centered on access—bringing world-class musicians from all over the world to Princeton and making their music accessible to everyone. Those words are literally in the original deed of the gift that started PUC. It feels like our founders would be really proud tonight that 131 years later we are still adding new ways for people to join our community of music lovers."

Thank you to all who joined us last night, and to our partners at Catholic Charities USA, Center for Modern Aging Princeton, HomeFront, HomeWorks Trenton, Meals on Wheels of Mercer County, Princeton, NJ Government, and Trenton Arts at Princeton for helping us spread the word to prospective Admit All members.

Thank you to Admit All supporters from our Princeton University community who were in attendance: Shawn Maxam, Associate Provost for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, and Leslie Rowley, PUC Committee Chair and Associate Director of the Kahneman-Treisman Center for Behavioral Science & Public Policy at Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.

Thank you to Admit All donors Reba Orszag, Pamela Patton, Director of the Index of Medieval Art at Princeton University, and Eric White, Curator of Rare Books at the Princeton University Library.

“Part of my practice is imagining musical family trees and learning from the influences of my influences... I gravitate towards forgotten songs, early or maligned instruments, and languages and performance styles on the brink of extinction. I bring this process of excavation into my own writing, blending old and new, exploring language and mythology. I have been making the unoriginal yet concerted effort to move beyond categorizing music by genre. What I am interested in is exploring, celebrating, and making fun of desire, divulging secrets, dredging up the past, looking under the rug.” —Cecile McLorin Salvant

Thank you to all who joined us at our opening event and opening performance of the 2024-25 season last night!

It was a transformative evening with Syrian clarinetist , Syrian-Armenian visual artist , and moderator .deb. The artists performed their original work “Home Within,” a response to the Syrian crisis. Then, award-winning international correspondent Deborah Amos led them in a thoughtful conversation about art’s role in defining “home” and in responding to world events.

We were especially honored to have Syrian and Ukranian refugees in the audience last night. We thank the artists for speaking with these families and also with students after the performance.

Here are a few snapshots of the evening, full of tears, optimism, and hope.

Thank you for a new flavor in anticipation of tomorrow's opening event and for donating proceeds to , a cause championed by Healing with Music artists and !

:
🤎🤎ma’amoul cookies & (date)cream!🤎🤎
✨To highlight and celebrate and their incredible ‘Healing with Music’ event on Thursday, September 26, we have created this special flavor featuring 3 different kinds of delicious ma’amoul cookies from the FANTASTIC bakery!
✨Since it was so difficult to decide between the pistachio (so fresh!), the walnut (oh with cinnamon!) and the date (actually maybe these were the favorite??) buttery semolina cookies, got them all and swirled them into a very ‘special & spiced’ pistachio, walnut and organic date ice cream. Creamy! Salty! Nutty! And DATE, DATE, DATE-Y!

✨Here is a bit about the event via the PUC:

The PUC event, entitled ‘Syria: Art in a Time of Crisis,’ features ‘Home Within,’ an audio-visual project by Syrian composer and clarinetist and Syrian-Armenian visual artist , created with the intention of raising awareness for Syrian refugees, followed by a conversation between the artists and award-winning international correspondent .deb to discuss the impact of war on our sense of ‘home.’

✨See the show Thursday, September 26 at 7:30PM at Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall, on University’s campus.

✨And special note, we will also be donating to the , an organization which serves thousands of displaced Syrians in Turkey, the U.S., and Jordan. Check out their stellar work!
