I’d like to introduce myself to the voters of Quincy Township Quincy MI. My husband and I own the Country Wedding Chapel & Event Center on the corner of Sebring & Ray Quincy - the proposed location for your new Quincy Township Hall & rental event center for the community. My intention for this building has always been to provide a nice, local, clean place for the community to be able to rent for events they may be hosting in their lives (from graduation parties, celebrations of life, birthday parties, baby/bridal showers, meetings, family get-together to weddings and anything in between!). I am event planner at heart so this was going to be my “retirement”. I had absolutely no intention on selling my property, but when I was approached this summer by a board member I decided to reconsider. Quincy Township’s “home” has been a room in the basement of the library & they have outgrown that space, have had to store items in another location & have had to secure other locations to host voting days. As a member of the Quincy community, it’s our responsibility to make sure the local government has what it needs to do their job effectively and efficiently for all of us. The millage they are asking for is to cover the purchase price of the building (which we voluntarily decreased to an amount that Quincy Township could hopefully afford by discounting the purchase price by at least $55,000), items inside the building to be used for renting/using the building (which I agreed to sell to them at my cost with no mark-up), the cost to pay someone to lay the flooring in the old section of the building (the flooring has already been bought & is included in the purchase price of the building), the cost to put in 2 new furnaces in the old section (because they would like to offer air conditioning throughout the entire building), costs to complete renovation of some parts of the inside to make the space usable for their needs (set up offices & storage areas), the cost to put up a garage/shed (to house larger items needing storage when not in use) as well as a little bit of cash flow for beginning start-up/monthly expenses until rentals can start coming in.
By voting YES on this proposal, you can help your local government have a place to call “home” in order to provide you with the best service, you also continue to have a nice place to rent for events in your life AND you have some say in what “business” stays in that property (since we have decided to sell, we WILL be selling the building….this vote allows you to have some control over what “goes into” this location). Quincy Township needs a bigger space & they would not be able to locate land & build an office building for less than $500,000 so if that becomes their option, you can expect that the millage that they would need to ask for would be much higher. This millage is termed at 6 1/2 years….$50 approximately per year for you for a total of $325 to have a permanent home for your township offices & a nice community rental building!
