“The son of Sierra Leonean parents, LesTheGenius (Leslie Robbin-Coker) was born in Edmonton, London England and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. Inspired by other Carolina natives such as J Cole, Mez and 9th Wonder, Les is able to create a unique style focused on socially conscious lyrics enhanced through his rhythmic delivery over genre-fusing tracks drawing from his diverse social background.
Les received his first national break through an unlikely outlet for most musicians, the Raleigh artist landed a spot on former President Barack Obama’s favorite music of 2019 playlist with his hometown anthem “Raleighwood Hills”. ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: HazrdPay
“Born and raised in the Bronx, Hazrdpay came to Raleigh to attend NC State in 2014 and quickly started making a name for himself in the Hip-Hop scene as a Music Director and DJ at WKNC where he started the weekly show Local Rap Lunch where he interviewed and spun tracks by artists local to North Carolina exclusively. He moved on to join Jooselord’s collective Krawzbonez as Joose’s main DJ and has been tearing down stages and getting crowds hyped ever since. Spinning mixes that electrify audiences, Haz can jump from Hip-Hop to Jamaican Dancehall to Jersey Club all night to keep the dance floor moving. ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: The Raleigh Rockers
“The Raleigh Rockers B-Boy Crew was originally founded in 2007 as the breaking club at NC State. The club hosted open practices to the Raleigh community and served as a place where people could come to learn, and grow as dancers. 2010 marked the first year that members of the Raleigh Rockers battled together under the Raleigh Rocker name. As members began to connect with other dancers outside the NC State community, the club grew into the family of dancers forming what you know today as the Raleigh Rocker B-Boy Crew. We now travel to compete, teach workshops, host competitions, perform, and do community outreach, all with the goal of creating a positive movement within our community, using the artistic medium of breaking.”
