If you need a project done, call this group! A request for volunteers to put 3750 labels on 3750 Drug Awareness coloring books went out. At least 30 volunteers showed up and the task was completed in under 2 hours!

These books will be provided to children in Wake, Durham, Orange, Johnston, Edgecombe and Nash Counties by The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, and on behalf of The Raleigh Elks.

A little something different for our April Backpack Buddy volunteer day. Put 7-12 massive sweet potatoes in bags for distribution to those in need. Not all are able to be bagged and must be put in compost, yuk! Still a fun day in Durham!

Sign up sheet is in the lounge, or respond to this email ASAP. To smoke pork takes a long time, so they need to know how much to buy and cook, there might not be enough to serve if you have not signed up.

Food is always a good way to say Thank You!

That's what The Raleigh Elks Lodge did on Friday, April 7. Jim Pendergast, through the Army of Hope has done this for the last 6 years! Our own Matt Lundgren and The Wandering Moose Food Truck and Catering Co. cooked and served a pig pickn' to approximately 60 members of the Aviation Squadron of The National Guard.

Jim Pendergast was awarded the Grand Exalted Ruler's Outstanding Service Commendation at the 4/4/23 meeting. This award recognizes Jim's exceptional contributions to the lodge and the Army of Hope Veterans Service over the last 13 years!

I don't think many of us realize how much goes into Army of Hope events. Some of the events include, Pig Pickn' for the Aviation Squadron, Lodge sponsored Military Ball, Thanksgiving meals delivered to thousands of families, back to school party for children of military members, including school supplies and over 200 bikes! Let's not forget the yearly angel tree at holiday time!

This is only a small list of Jim's contributions. Need volunteers for a fundraising event? Jim'll get em for you! Congratulations Jim on a much deserved award!

Hello members. I have just received tickets for the Spring Convention Annual Shoot out. This is the Charitable Trusts only fund raiser for the year. The tickets are $50.00. Please see Dean Schaeffer for a ticket. The winner will receive $5,000.00.
This money comes back to the lodges in the form of $1,000.00. Grants. The trust gives 20 grants per year. Thank you for your support. Dean.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED APRIL 13

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle supplies food and supplies to food pantries, schools, mobile markets and family food boxes. This is a great opportunity to get our Drug Awareness message out to children across 7 counties!

A big bunch of volunteers are needed to peel and stick Elks labels on 4000 Drug Awareness coloring books.

We will be getting together at the lodge on Thursday, April 13 at 6pm.

This is a great opportunity for new members to get to know your fellow Elks!

Kasey is at Duke Raleigh Hospital trying to determine what type Lung Virus she may have. She had previously been diagnosed with Pneumonia and treated for that but her symptoms didn’t get any better. She was admitted yesterday and has been in Isolation today until they ran several more test. The results of the test indicated it was not any of the known Viruses. Hoping they will get a handle on it soon!

Prayers needed for her quick recovery!

Even before joining our Lodge, Bill Carrington-Smith was a positive force in the community. Often taking care of less fortunate persons, starting the Hearts for Hands project to assist homeless persons, then driving our golf tournaments which helped support Lodge charities, etc. Truly a community minded Elk, driven to success, Bill was recognized as Citizen of the Year! Thank you Bill!
