You never know what you'll find at an old house!

This artifact, presumably part of an old wine bottle, was just dug up yesterday out of the front yard here at Haywood Hall. There are no clearly visible signs that tell us how old it is, but it could easily be 200 years old, especially given John Haywood's penchant for hosting parties at the house during his time!

There’s something truly special about watching a bride get ready in our Bridesmaids Suite. We love seeing her take a quiet moment to glance out the window as her wedding day comes to life—vendors setting up just beyond the gardens, every detail falling into place. Surrounded by her bridesmaids and family, it becomes a memory she’ll never forget.

Mental health matters, and Dr. Edmund Burke Haywood helped improve mental health treatment in North Carolina. Serving on the board of directors at Dorothea Dix Hospital for 25 years, Dr. Haywood helped establish two additional hospitals in the latter part of his life: Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro (the only mental hospital in the state to accept and treat Black patients until the 1960s) and Broughton Hospital in Morganton.
