Your capacity is NOT limitless + this is a good thing.
There have been seasons of my life where I feel like I can’t do it all; where I can’t keep up with what everyone else is doing.
And after letting that discontentment eat away at me for years, I finally came to this realization:
If I’m trying to do ALL of the things and it’s creating stress tension + overwhelm in my life, then that is NOT what is meant for me in this season.
We all have been given a certain capacity for the season we’re in.
You’ve been given a capacity for your photography biz, a capacity for how you show up as a parent, a spouse, a friend.
This capacity is not to hold you back. It’s there to allow you to thrive.
All too often, though, we try to extend that capacity beyond its limitations.
Whether it’s taking on sessions you don’t have time for, booking 3 days of fall mini sessions, volunteering at school or all of the above, you push that limitation.
Your body, mind and soul are screaming “SYSTEM OVERLOAD!! 🚨” and you’re refusing to listen.
The solution, though, goes against your internal drive for more. It rages against hustle culture and the myth that success and happiness are defined by doing more + having more.
STOP.
Stop trying to take on more than you have time + space + energy for.
Stop looking at what everyone on your Instagram feed is doing.
Stop trying to work when you should be spending time with your kids.
Stop trying to live a life that wasn’t meant for you.
You don’t serve anyone well when you have too much on your plate.
I know it’s hard when you want to do this and that and you feel like you can’t.
The list of circumstances that seemingly deter you from achieving what you desire are endless.
But many of those circumstances are there for a reason - because your focus is supposed to be split.
And when you operate within those circumstances + the capacity that you’ve been given, there is peace and an ability to thrive in the pared down responsibilities you’re taking on.
And maybe most importantly, there is an ability to be present wherever you are and an opportunity to serve whoever is in front of you in the way you were actually designed to.
