Several years back, I attended the wedding of a close friend. It was a great wedding, but the officiant was rather traditional, and to be honest, quite robotic. I thought to myself, “I should’ve officiated this wedding, I’m way more personable and outgoing.” Given the fact that my friends were far from the traditional type, they would have much rather had someone officiate that had more to say than the standard “till death do you part.” But, there wasn’t really many options. You simply called upon your local Priest, or Rabbi, or otherwise traditionally engaged officiant that could get the job done. I decided that I wanted to help couples have the option for a more specialized ceremony, something more in line with their personalities and style. So, as you do in the new age, I went to the internet. I received my ordination from the Church of Dudeism, a group inspired by the Big Lebowski. Yes, that’s right, I am one of over 400,000 Dudeist Priests ordained world-wide! This has given way to having the opportunity to offer people a much more fun, upbeat, customized ceremony. Not every couple desires the traditional script and repeat ceremony, and I am here to give them something a little more memorable. I meet with couples, find out who they are, what’s important to them, and how they envision their ceremony. Some want short and sweet, others want funny and offbeat, while others want beautiful spoken word ceremonies that focus on the meaning of love and commitment. With a background that involves a love for creative writing, I am able to give them that.
