"Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give you all a quick update on Vanessia's recovery journey. It's only been a few days since her second brain surgery in two weeks, and we're incredibly grateful for all the love and well wishes pouring in for her.

Despite the challenges, Vanessia is showing remarkable progress in her healing process. She's been incredibly brave and resilient through it all, and we couldn't be prouder of her strength.

Thank you so much for your continued support, prayers, and positive vibes. It means the world to us during this challenging time.

We'll keep you updated on Vanessia's progress, and please keep those good thoughts coming her way.

With love and gratitude,

Even Liberty hasn’t left her side since she got home.

🎉🎓 Exciting News! 🎓🎉

I am thrilled to share that yesterday marked a monumental milestone in my journey! After successfully defending my dissertation, I am officially set to graduate from my doctoral program at USC on May 8th! 🎓✨

But that's not all... On this very same day, our youngest daughter Vanessia underwent her third brain surgery, and I am overjoyed to report that it was a resounding success! 🙌🧠

It’s been a whirlwind of emotions, from the nerves of defending my dissertation to the relief and gratitude of Vanessia's successful surgery. I am incredibly grateful for the support of my family, friends, and mentors who have been with me every step of the way.

As we celebrate this momentous occasion, I am filled with hope and excitement for the future. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey! 🌟

LONG HAIR
Traditionally, long hair was always a symbol of masculinity. All of history's great warriors had long hair, from the Greeks (who wrote odes to their heroes' hair) to the Nordic, from the American Indians (famous for their long shiny hair) to the Japanese. And the longer and beautiful the hair was, the more manly the warrior was considered. Vikings flaunted their braids and samurai wore their long hair as a symbol of their honor (they cut their braid when they lose honor).
When a warrior was captured, his mane was cut to humiliate him, to take away his beauty. That custom resumed in what is today military service. There when new soldiers begin their training the first thing they do is cut their hair to undermine their self-esteem, make them submissive and make them see who's boss.
The Romans were the ones who "invented" short hair so to speak, between the 1st and 5th centuries AD.. In battles they believed this gave them defensive advantages, since their opponents couldn't grab them by the hair. This also helped them to recognize each other in the battlefield.
Short hair on men is a relatively new "invention" that has nothing to do with aesthetics.
But today we often see men being humiliated, sometimes called "gay" for wearing long hair, not knowing that short hair is actually the "anti-masculine" and is a repressive social imposition, while long hair symbolizes freedom

Keanu Reeves was abandoned by his father at 3 years old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. He is dyslexic. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident. His best friend, River Phoenix, died of an overdose. His sister has leukemia.
And with everything that has happened, Keanu Reeves never misses an opportunity to help people in need. When he was filming the movie "The Lake House," he overheard the conversation of two costume assistants; One cried because he would lose his house if he did not pay $20,000 and on the same day Keanu deposited the necessary amount in the woman's bank account; He also donated stratospheric sums to hospitals.
In 2010, on his birthday, Keanu walked into a bakery and bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him.
After winning astronomical sums for the Matrix trilogy, the actor donated more than $50 million to the staff who handled the costumes and special effects - the true heroes of the trilogy, as he called them.
He also gave a Harley-Davidson to each of the stunt doubles. A total expense of several million dollars. And for many successful films, he has even given up 90% of his salary to allow the production to hire other stars.
In 1997 some paparazzi found him walking one morning in the company of a homeless man in Los Angeles, listening to him and sharing his life for a few hours.
Most stars when they make a charitable gesture they declare it to all the media. He has never claimed to be doing charity, he simply does it as a matter of moral principles and not to look better in the eyes of others.
This man could buy everything, and instead every day he gets up and chooses one thing that cannot be bought: To be a good person.
Keanu Reeves’ father is of Native Hawaiian descent

Delicious!
The end of the summer and an abundance of fresh tomatoes here is a tomato cobbler with ricotta cheese biscuits. I used some Italian cheeses and fresh thyme, good local olive oil tossed with the fresh cut tomatoes. Layered in a casserole dish topped with the biscuits and brushed with buttermilk. Yummy. I served it with a Mornay sauce and a Pesto.

For those hitting the ocean and waves this summer.

This is really simple. You can spot a rip current. Unfortunately, it's where it looks easiest and safest to enter the sea. This is because the rip current is looping around and pulling back OUT. Hence no waves rolling IN. NEVER ENTER THE OCEAN HERE.

If you are already in the sea and get caught in a rip current (you'll know because you will suddenly be moved from your location and it will be impossible to swim against it) don't panic. Swim ACROSS, not against the rip current. For example, rather than trying to swim to shore while being pushed out, swim parallel to the beach and you will be able to get out. Then you can swim ashore. Please educate friends or family visiting the beaches this summer. Stay safe and aware.

Our Story

I am originally from Providence, Rhode Island and lived for several years in Iowa where my four children were all born. I went into the U.S. Army at 17 when I graduated high school. I worked for some of the biggest technology companies and the largest defense contractor in the world. My background is in Information Technology. I served in the U.S. Army where my job was in communications and information. I have worked for the Department of Corrections and the Department of Transportation. During my time at DOT as a civil engineer I learned that I didn’t like living in a cubical and I enjoyed my evening hospitality job more than my engineering position. I have always loved to cook and was raised by my mother whom was a chef/nutritionist and retired from the VA hospital in Rhode Island. My dad is a U.S. Army Veteran of 24 years and accomplished author ( In this valley there are Tigers). I am married with five children and seven grandchildren. My husband Arthur is a U.S. Navy veteran.

They say you make big decisions in your life for love or money; I made the decision to quit Information Technology to go to culinary school and I’ve dreamed of opening my own establishment one day [with a lot of hard work and dedication].

I have worked for establishments in the food industry my whole life even as an engineer because I just love to serve people. The standards I hold deep are unlike many other establishments. I care about where we acquire our ingredients, how we prepare and cook those ingredients and how customers feel about doing business with Star Spangled Catering. I want our customers to walk away with a satisfaction that they and their food have been treated with the utmost respect and care.
