The story of Santa’s Magical Express was created MANY MANY years ago in the living room of the Tobin household on 103 Elmhurst Ave in Rensselaer, New York. John Tobin Sr, the founder of Yankee Trails had seven children and all seven children
work for Yankee Trails to this day.

Their youngest daughter, Erin, was always a creative kid who liked to make up stories that she would tell on Christmas Day. One particular Christmas Day, John had gathered the kids into the living room so Erin could tell her story. The story began on one of her Dad’s “Big Busses” and that bus magically transformed into a Magical Express and it helped deliver Santa’s Presents when Santa’s sleigh wasn’t working. The story grew each Christmas and it was always a fun adventure to see where the Magical Express would go next.

One day, twenty years later, Stephen Tobin, Erin’s older brother, brought up the story she used to tell eons ago and asked her if she could create something for all the Tobin grandchildren to experience. Erin sat down and created Santa’s Magical Express. Not only did the bus transform into the Magical Express, but now there was a villain and that villain’s name was Jack Frost. Jack Frost main goal was to sabotage Christmas and he did that by stealing Santa’s magic. Where did Santa’s magic live you may ask? Well it lived in his red hat on top of his head. Jack would sneak in and steal it and without Santa’s hat, Christmas would be cancelled. Erin created an adventure on the bus and placed clues from Jack Frost for the kids to figure out and at the end of the story, Jack Frost gave Santa his hat back and found the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas was saved.

Twelve years ago, The Tobin’s decided to share this story with the families of the Capital Region. In the beginning, there were only 8 actors, many of them doing multiple parts of the show. Now, Santa’s Magical Express has over 100 actors that participate every year. The show will entertain over 8,000 people from November to December. The tradition of the story has always been the same, but the Theatrical Version of it has transformed Erin’s living room tale, into a booming, Christmas success.

The Tobin’s would like to thank the hundreds of actors, stage builders, and producers that participate in the show every year. Without them, this would not be possible. We hope you come to see the show and hopefully walk away with a lasting Christmas memory for you and your family.
