Today on our series highlighting selections from Wine Spectator's Top 100 List is the Muga Rioja Reserva, which comes in at # 51. We have been singing the praises of Spain's Muga Winery at Johnny's for years. Their Rioja Reserva is a blernd of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Gaciano. Rich and savory, this wine is just as good in a tasting as it it paired with grilled meats and strong Spanish cheeses. From another appellation, this wine would easily be over triple it's current price of $39.99.

The Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines of 2024 has awarded a top 50 spot to a wine that is only $14.99! The Santa Cristina Cabernet out of Tuscany is an insane value. This wine has fruit forward notes of blackberry and black cherry that are accented by hints of graphite and rosemary on the finish. A budget friendly red on the Top 100 list; yes please!

Wine Spectator's Top 100 list can be a great way to try quality wines that you normally would not normally try. The Txomin Etxaniz from Etxaniz Txakolina in Spain is a perfect example of this and is ranked # 62 for 2024. The Txakoli grape is grown almost exclusively in the Basque region of Spain. This slightly effervescent offering is has notes of honeydew and tangerine with a nice bit of salinity on the finish. At $22.99, this food friendly white wine is a crushable crowd pleaser that will impress even the most studied wine drinkers.

Wine Spectator's Top 100 list has awarded the Flowers Chardonnay # 43 for 2024. The Sonoma Coast has long been considered on the best places on the planet to produce Chardonnay. Unlike many modern Chardonnays, Flowers emphasizes balance. While retaining some of the buttery smoke popular among chardonnay drinkers, this wine also brings in a tempering amount of acid in its yuzu and grapefruit notes. This is a beaitful example of what Chadonnay can bring to the table. $49.99

Hello Corkscrew Community -

Unfortunately we are starting the new year with some very sad news. It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our team members, William "Tanner" Young.

Tanner had been with us since October of 2021 serving as a trusted, reliable and important part of our Corkscrew family. We saw him flourish and thrive in the last two years taking over our marketing efforts, and if you enjoyed our social media content during that time you can point directly to his talents as a marketing professional and as an artist. Aside from being a valued member of our team here, he was a talented photographer, graphic designer, lover of music and movies, and someone who volunteered his time in local, state and our national election processes. He cared about the world, about humanity, and his presence has and will always be missed in our little shop in Richfield.

Hug the people you care about, tell them you love them, try not to sweat the small stuff, and do your best to soak in as much of the good in this short life as you can. Another painful reminder of how fragile this time we have truly is.

Coming in at # 3 this year, this Tuscan Red is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. This powerhouse is good today or in the cellar for another 20 years. This wine would make an excellent gift for the discerning wine drinker in your life or serve as a great pairing with a comforting Christmas dinner.
