What to do when the Dahlia to-do list is done (sorta 😆)? Polish off tulip to-do list. A little snow storm bothers this farmer only a little, and doesn’t bother these bulbs at all.

It’ll be worth it!

After all, who wouldn’t love a G O R G E O U S bouquet of spring flowers right about now? 🙋🏻‍♀️ These need eight or so more weeks of chilling and rooting and then they’ll be ready to shoot up as it warms.

P. S. We will have ranunculus and anemone this spring too 🥳🎉🌷💐!

A beautiful miniature ball dahlia, Creamy boasts soft ivory-colored blooms that glow with a subtle buttercream hue. Its 2-3.5 inch blooms sit atop compact plants. We reach for it over and over in arrangements. Strong production all season long, too.

Who else will be planning next season’s garden or farm in the next few months? I just want to be back in the dahlia patch picking whatever catches my eye again! (Pictured: me with Camano Zoe, Mystique, Cafe au Lait Rose, Kelgai Ann.) Alas, I do have to select my favorites.

I noticed brides wanted jewel tones in 2024, but the Pantone color for 2025 is “Mocha Mousse.”Good thing for Valley Tawny dahlia, Choco Lisianthus, and Chocolate Cosmos! What cocoa colored blossoms will you be growing?

The Under the Sun Dahlia Dig is DONE! 😅😴

Admittedly this isn’t much of a celebratory photo, but it represents a such an adventure and a community effort of epic proportions.

With the amazing help of neighbors, friends, and family, [THANK YOU!] we just finished digging, washing, dividing, wrapping, and storing around 8,000 Dahlia tubers! Out of those, 2,600 were hand-selected (by yours truly) as perfect tubers with visible eyes—ready for a sale (spring shipping). These will be part of a special early-sale, opening soon! Pictured is our Coolbot™️ cooler with crates full of tubers. I will be monitoring the temperature like a hawk all winter. 42 degrees is ideal for dahlias.

Also: today, we finally got our Christmas tree up and decorated, and it is feeling a little bit like Christmas around here. 🎄 Maybe we’ll now get some Christmas shopping done too? Before diving into final website updates and shenanigans, we are trying to enter into the spirit of the holidays!

We are just a bit tired so maybe you can inspire us: what’s your favorite simple holiday tradition? Tell me in the comments—I’d love to hear how you’re celebrating and enjoying loved ones this season! Bonus if it has to do with food 🙌🏻😋.

Stay tuned for sale updates—you won’t want to miss it!

I keep my favorite dahlia cultivars in a 10x10 grow tent in my basement to propagate through the winter months. I have been too busy with work and digging/dividing dahlias to be taking cuttings which means we get to enjoy some amazing blossoms! This Hollyhill Daydream is about as perfect as they come. Makes me look forward to next summer!

Happiest Thanksgiving to you all! We are filled with gratitude. (Not only because we pulled out the last clump of tubers from our grow bags last night!). Mostly because we are surrounded by a wonderful community of friends and family who have supported our wild dahlia adventure this season. What a year it has been. Cheers!🥂

Standing taller than most of our other dahlias, “20th Ave Rayna” is a vibrant formal decorative blossom. She is elegant, full of petals, and impressive in every way. An absolute keeper from hybridizer Rich Gibson.

Take me baaaaaaack! Who’s missing summer already? 🌸 🙋‍♀️. As Luke and I escape for a few days before one final Dahlia farm push—we’re beginning a season of rest, reflection, and dreams for next year. 🍂 We hope you're as ready as we are for a fantastic 2025 season!

Dahlia farm update! 🧺👩‍🌾

Did you know that November is one of the busiest months on a dahlia farm?

Every individual plant has to be lifted out of the ground. Underneath there is a clump of tubers that has to be inspected, washed, divided, washed again, sorted, labeled, and wrapped 🤯. They are then stored at 42 degrees.

We've had a wonderful group of workers helping and we are 1/3 done with the process—right on schedule. Our walk in refrigerator is starting to fill up! The kids are going to have to move their stash of beverages out of there soon! 😆

The tuber sale date is pending. We hoped to do a fall sale, but as of now we only have white, yellow, and orange cultivars completed. We'd like to complete the rainbow 🌈 before we launch the sale 💵!

When I started this tiny little farm, I pictured: tons of gorgeous flowers, peace and quiet, and a nice little side hustle.

The reality? Oodles gorgeous flowers, yes—but also friends, lovely conversation (sourdough recipes, differently abled children, love and loss,
and even the art of the packrat), snacks, community, connections, and a side hustle that’s blossomed into something even more meaningful. ❤️🌱 I work full time and can't dig and divide these alone. I asked for help and got it!

We’ve had a fantastic crew coming out to help dig and divide dahlias this week and throughout the next month, and I’m so grateful for the support and connections being made along the way. I've made new friends this week, I've also gotten to spend time with my cousin Jill, Luke’s Aunt Mary K., as well and many other friends, neighbors, and family members (and even a dog named “Al Gore” 😂!) Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this journey so far! 🙌

You know what’s (sort of) sad?

One year ago today, this is what my pantry looked like—full to the brim of stewed tomatoes, pickles, jams and salsa. Today, it’s nearly empty, except for some beautiful peaches generously canned for me by my sister-in-law, Caitlin Kujacznski and my brother-in-law, Adam.

Usually, along with flowers, I have a substantial vegetable garden, as well as a peach tree, and berries—raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, you name it. By this time of year, I’m typically like a little mouse, ready for winter with a pantry stocked and ready—culinary companions and comforts for the winter. But not this year.

This past year, my time was largely devoted to my (new) flower farm effort, leaving little space for canning, reading, writing, or even our usual family vacation. It’s been a different season than normal, to say the least.

Looking back, I realize I likely won’t have another year quite as intense as this one. I look forward to “normalizing.” Quite specifically, I'd like a pantry like this again! But despite missing some of my usual hobbies, I think I will always remember 2024 as a pivot point for me.

In exchange for a pantry full of food and summer relaxation, I’ve gained something much more meaningful—a business I love, a thriving Dahlia and cut-flower farm, and a community of flower farmers and friends who have been incredibly generous and supportive. From being fed countless times by my “sustenance coordinator” Caitlin Kujacznski, to gaining dear new friends (Gabi!) on my farm, to receiving hundreds of hours of help from family, neighbors, friends, and even strangers—this year has shown me the very best of humanity. Also, the unwavering support of my husband, Luke Kujacznski, who encouraged and supported me every step of the way.

While my pantry may be lacking, my heart is full. This year brought challenges, but it also brought growth, hope, and a sense of connection that I had been longing for.

The flower stand is closed for the season now. The pantry is less than mediocre this year. But, while I think my upcoming Dahlia Tuber Sale will be fantastic, my real win is the community I couldn't have drempt of a year ago. 💫♥️
