Dançarina Events provides dance training and social dance experiences for Brazilian zouk, urban kiz and kizomba.

You’re invited to the January edition of our free monthly 321 Kizzouk & Latin Dance Social this coming SUNDAY Jan 26 5-8pm at Garden Grove in Carytown. 50% Kiz/zouk and 50% latin- includes a beginner-friendly Urban Kiz class 5-6pm, invite your friends and join us!

321 means we rotate:
3 Kiz/zouk-able songs
2 bachata
1 salsa

📣 UPDATE for Thursday Kiz classes (Level 1 and Improvers): due to the ongoing water crisis in Richmond we have decided to postpone the start of Level 1 and Improvers classes by a week to Jan 16. Class 5 will shift to a makeup date of Tuesday Feb 18th and there will be no Kiz/zouk practice social on 2/18– you will get a 321 Social that week on Thursday 2/20 though, invite coming soon for that!

Makeup classes on 2/18 will be held at the same times: 7-8pm Level 1, 815-930 Improvers.

We are exhausted from the production of cooking, cleaning and bathing without running water but very, very happy to have a trickle of water since late afternoon and hopeful for full pressure tomorrow. Not expecting the boil warning to lift until Friday.

Schedule for Level 2 Tuesday class and Tuesday practice social next week is unaffected.

Join us for a special weekend of workshop intensive training with guest instructor Nii. Originally from Ghana, now based out of NYC, Nii draws on over 20-years of social dancing and a background of reiki and yoga to form a unique teaching style for both Urban Kiz and Brazilian Zouk.

Saturday Jan 4 Urban Kiz 3-6pm: 2hr Fun & Games workshop - training for skills needed to unlock dance floor musicality and creativity on the dance floor via an interactive game structure. Followed by 1 hr practice social with DJ Devine. Prereq: Level 1 or equivalent. $40 RVSP/more info here: Urban Kiz "Fun & Games" workshop w/ Nii + practice social

Sunday Jan Zouk 5 3-5pm: 2hr Technique.Musicality.Creativity workshop layering from simple to complex connection and expression. 90 min class followed by 30 min guided practica. Prereq: Basico & Lateral or Basics A & B or equivalent training on fundamentals. $30 RVSP/more info here: Brazilian Zouk workshop with Nii

Nii’s methodology includes teaching people how to find joy and alignment with themselves through movement and dance; how to have better relationships with themselves and others and how allow dance to be a vehicle for healing, expression and connection in ways we might struggle to find in other areas of our lives.

Join for both workshops for $60.

Nii will also be available for privates in both dance styles at Jennifer’s home Jan 3-9. DM for rates and scheduling.

🚨 There’s a new social in town! We’re launching a monthly FREE kizzouk & Latin social, mark your calendars, wear something festive 🎄and join us for the holiday edition Thursday Dec 19 at Garden Grove in Carytown. No partner required, no dance experience necessary, family-friendly, all are welcome! Come check out this cozy microbrewery and urban winery in Carytown, make some new friends, learn some new skills and get your dance on!

7-8pm beginner-friendly Urban Kiz class
8-10pm (maybe later) 321 dance social w/ DJ Devine

321 format means we rotate songs:
3 for both Kiz and Zouk
2 for bachata
1 for salsa

Drinks & snacks will be available for purchase & water will be on hand. Outside food IS allowed. Sample a flight or grab a pint; Garden Grove has a selection of their own brews on tap- including beers, honey wine, ciders, and ginger ale.

Urban Kiz is a connection-based partner social dance that evolved in Paris just over a decade ago with roots in Kizomba, a cultural partner dance native to Angola in Africa. Urban kiz fuses elements from other dance styles including tango and hip hop. It can be danced to many styles of music including pop, r&b, hip hop, EDM...at a wide variety of speeds.

Charlie & Jennifer are the only Urban Kiz instructors in RVA - the next series of classes begin week of Jan 7. Come get a taste before you commit!

Save the date - we will celebrate the end of the year, holidays, and culmination of THREE levels of student training with a free community social Thursday Dec 19. More info coming soon.

Jan classes will begin week of Jan 5, on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. If you are interested in classes please message us here or Jennifer Dançarina directly to be added to the Level 1 waitlist. If you are an experienced dancer and would like to be assessed to start training with us in Level 2 or Improvers series’ please reach out. All series’ run for 5 weeks and include complimentary admission to the weekly Tuesday kizzouk practice social.

Urban Kiz is a newer connection-based lead/follow partner social dance born in Paris just over a decade ago with elements from Kizomba (from Angola, Africa), Tango, and hip-hop. Find your groove, flow and creativity and discover the magic of Urban Kiz - Level 1 class series starts Oct 22- enrollment is open now.

This was a fun post class Brazilian zouk demo dance! Dancers: Will Russ and Jennifer Dançarina. Thanks to Cam and Noelle for having us to teach at Bailamos Wednesdays at Banditos. It was so nice to see many new people tipping their toe in the zouk pool—you all did great! I hope to see some of you joining us for Basico bootcamp in the fall and Tuesday zouk practicas.
