Happy Small Business Saturday, everyone! It’s been a while and I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself.

My name is Fiona and I am the farmer-florist behind Pond Hollow Farm and Flowers. We are a woman-owned and operated small farm located in Richmond, VT and we grow specialty cut flowers that you typically won’t find in a grocery store such as local winter tulips and lilies, ranunculus, heirloom and Itoh peonies, garden roses, and dahlias.

We take particular pride in the fact that we practice regenerative farm techniques which means no pesticides or herbicides are ever sprayed on our plants.

Our bouquets are made up of flowers grown right here in Vermont so they are 100% local. We sell our flowers primarily through CSA subscriptions and made-to-order bouquets for special events.

During the summer when I’m not in the garden, I’m either coaching my 8 yr old’s soccer team or rushing my 11 yr old to his baseball game. Now that we’re entering into snow season, I’m split between getting ready for skiing with my sons or prepping my grow room for forcing amaryllis bulbs and winter tulips.

I really appreciate you following me on my flower farming journey and if you ever have any flower-related questions, I’d love to hear from you. Thank you for supporting small businesses like ours and for buying local flowers!

I just picked up my last batch of tulips. Signup for my winter tulips CSA will be opening soon. If you’re interested, send me a DM and I will add you to my newsletter list so you will be the first to know when signup opens. When it’s cold and gloomy outside, a bouquet of tulips is just what you need to fight off the winter doldrums!

These are the last bouquets of 2024. I thought for sure I would not be able to have any dahlias for bouquets this year but I managed to cut a few blooms before the deer got to them. The heirloom chrysanthemums really came through for me. When my dahlias cried and turned black at our first frost, the chrysanthemums practically laughed when it dipped into the low thirties. What this means is I’m going to have to grow more heirloom chrysanthemums next year to extend my season!

The last summer subscription bouquet of 2024 just went out the door! I am a ball of emotions: joy, relief, sadness, pride, and excitement. Joy because I know my customer will love this bouquet and give her happiness when she looks at it throughout the day. Relief because for the next few months, Monday nights and Tuesday mornings will be less hectic now that I don’t have to prep and deliver bouquets. Sadness because I do love growing flowers for my customers. Pride because it has been a great 2nd year of being a flower farmer. I had flowers when there was still snow on the ground all due to my winter lilies. And finally excitement because I have so many things planned for you guys so stay tuned!

Happy World Ampersand Day! It was pouring when I ran out to harvest the solidago, wild aster, and of course roses to create this ampersand design but it was totally worth it. Thanks for the fun challenge, ! I love supporting small businesses that are owned and run by women because my farm is also a small business run by a woman. Not only are the quality of products amazing but they are ethical as well in the causes they support and their business model. They’ve got an awesome sale going on now so check out their website!

Subscribers, it’s bouquet pickup Tuesday! Along with the summer lilies, dianthus, Scoop Scabiosa, Mountain mint and Frosted Explosion, you will also notice there are roses in your bouquet! Unlike the ones bought in the grocery store, you’ll notice these roses have a fragrance. They do have a shorter vaselife as a result but that just makes them more precious!

St. Albans subscribers, it’s bouquet pickup Tuesday!

The summer lilies are at their peak. I’m so glad I decided to grow them this year because they are helping to fill in the gap between peony season and dahlia season. The dahlias are delayed due to the weather we’ve been having this past year but I’m hoping we’ll have blooms late August to early September.

Flowers this week include lilies, hydrangea, mountain mint, dianthus, Frosted Explosion, Scoop Scabiosa, and ranunculus.

Flowers this week include peonies, ranunculus, Scoop Scabiosa, dianthus, sunflowers, crocosmia, Echinops, and Panicum Frosted Explosion. This is the last week for peonies but I’m so excited about the gladiolus, dahlias, and lisianthus that are on the horizon.
