RIP David Jenkins. THANK YOU for all you have done for me and Catoosa county .

It would seem that a bye week has come at the perfect time for the Ringgold Tigers.
They will be able to rest a bit, heal (hopefully) a lot and figure out why they had such a flat performance that barely allowed them to escape upset-minded LaFayette 24-17 this past Friday.
A wicked end-of-season schedule awaits them -- including a potential battle of unbeatens at year's end with Rockmart. But there is a lot of football between now and then.
This past week, a stalwart defense allowed the Tigers to overcome penalties and the kind of mental mistakes that largely come with fatigue. But the energy should quickly return in time for Coahulla Creek a week down the road as the Tigers can take comfort in facts like this is the longest win streak in the 87-year history of Ringgold (and thus 7-0 for the first time ever). They also are ranked as a Top Ten Class AAA in the state.
It's a good time to be a Tiger.

Halfway through the 2021 season, the Ringgold Tigers are literally rewriting their record book. Friday night, their second straight mega-blowout of a region opponent took down Murray County by a 78-0 score -- and only ignorant people who weren't there thought the Tigers ran up the score.
They didn't have to try. The bottom half of this region is so weak this year, they did not have to!
The Tigers' defense scored three touchdowns, and Ringgold score twice in the third quarter without the offense so much as stepping onto the field (kickoff return, punt return). The second half of the season will be markedly tougher, so this should be enjoyed while it can:
Kori Dumas scored four touchdown on only eight carries -- those totaling 184 yards. The team had 459 total yards, did not turn the ball over and did not punt.
Next up -- a road trip to Adairsville, a place where Ringgold has never won a football game.

If you're not listening, you'd better recognize ... records are falling like crazu. Our Tigers are leading Murray County 51-0 at HALFTIME. I said HALFTIME, people. It's on live at 94.7 FM/

Fresh off of a record margin of victory (56-0) against county rival LFO, the unbeaten Ringgold Tigers hit the halfway point in their 2021 campaign this Friday with a battle against unpredictable Murray County.
The 1-3 Indians possess a potent passing game (nin e touchdown passes), but it is a needed part of their game because they are always coming from behind.
Kickoff is at 7:30, with all the action broadcast LIVE on WAAK, 94.7.

09/18/2021

Great day in the morning! In the first quarter against LFO, Ringgold had:
A touchdown pass
A rushing TD
An interception return for a touch
A fumble/stolen handoff for a score
28-0!

With a bit of a miracle win in their hip pocket, the unbeaten (and how long have we waited to say that again?) Ringgold Tigers return home Friday night to take care of a bit of Catoosa County cleanup business with the annual bloodletting with Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe.
Not a whole lot of folks felt Ringgold (3-0, 1-0 in region action) could go into North Murray and survive; their 31-28 win speaks loudly to the contrary. In addition, junior running back Peyton Williams -- injured much of 2020 -- was named one of the state of Georgia
s top five rushing performances by picking up 233 yards on just 11 carries. Add his 60 receiving yards on three catches, and you have a person the Warriors need to focus their attention on.
But the Warriors must first get their own house in order. The program has enjoyed an upswing of late, including three straight over Ringgold from 2017-2019. This year's version, however, is 0-2, losing to Class A Gordon Lee 21-0 and Walker County rival LaFayette 39-0.
As always, the game will be broadcast live on WAAK, 94.7, Ringgold's very own FM. Kickoff is 7:30.

WHAT A WIN!!
The home season began with a BANG for the Ringgold Tigers Friday, as a mostly unstoppable offense left the visiting Ridgeland Panthers down in the dirt of Don Patterson Field in the form of a 44-0 shutout.
The Panthers managed just three first downs while the Tigers rolled up 441 yards. Generating much of the offense was quarterback Mason Parker, who threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns -- two to not-so-secret weapon Peyton Williams, who also added a scoring run of 12 yards.
But the Tigers (2-0) were led on the ground by senior Kori Dumas, who gained 166 yards on just 11 carries, including touchdown runs of 22 and 44 yards. Ringgold also got a 28-yard Parker-to-Malachi Hill scoring strike.
But you can't have a shutout without a major defensive effort, and Friday night was no exception. For the second straight week, the Tigers got a pair of interceptions -- this week by Ty Gilbert and Bryson Bethune -- while allowing Ridgeland (1-2) just 22 passing yards.
The Region 6-AAA schedule looms ahead for the Tigers, beginning with a road trip to explosive North Murray (1-0). The Mountaineers edged Northwest Whitfield 31-30 Friday night.

The Ringgold Tigers are happy today that they found a replacement game for Heritage in what was to be their 2021 football season opener.
Instead, the Tigers made the trip to Ellijay and opened with a 35-15 over Gilmer County to put a big W atop what could be a special season in Ringgold. Senior quarterback Mason Parker ran for a pair of touchdowns and got the night started right with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Hill.
Hill caught four passes on the night -- two from Parker and two from Gilmer quarterback Seth Darling. In fact, Darling completed as many passes to Tigers safety Hill as he did to all his own receivers.
In addition, the play of the game was likely a defensive one: with Gilmer driving towards a possible tying touchdown late in the first half, TIgers linebacker Kori Dumas gathered in a Gilmer fumble and took it the other way 71 yards for a back-breaking touchdown.
Dumas also led Ringgold in rushing with 94 yards, while junior Peyton Williams added 82 on the ground, including a 4-yard TD run.
The Tigers next are scheduled to open their home season with a visit from Ridgeland Friday, Sept. 3rd.

THIS JUST IN....

Ringgold WILL have a season opening football game this week -- only it's going to be on THURSDAY night at Gilmer County. Kickoff will be a little earlier (7 p.m.) but we will be carrying the broadcast LIVE on WAAK 94.7 FM -- Ringgold's FM station. The game will be replayed Friday night at the "normal" 7:30 time for kickoff.

Two items of interest.
The Ringgold-Heritage football game August 27th has been cancelled.

But word is the Tigers are seeking another opponent for that night. We hear Gilmer County is one possibility. Stay tuned.

A stunning upturn in COVID positives have begun having a domino effect of the just-arrived 2021 football.
Catoosa Schools Superintendent Denia Reese reported Thursday that 44 positive tests were reported at Heritage High School, leading to the decision to close the school Friday and Monday.
Hand-in-hand with that, the season opener between county rivals Heritage and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe was postponed. Since both teams had an existing open date on Oct. 22nd, the game was muatally agreed to be played on that date.
But the Ringgold Tigers,. who were not scheduled to play Friday, have already had their upcoming game with Heritage on August 27th postponed. No makeup date has been decided upon.
COVID has not impacted the county's other high schools as severely. During the same period, Ringgold announced 20 positive cases, while LFO reported only seven among students. Ringgold has two staff positives, while Heritage and LFO had one apiece.
----------
Heritage Middle School has also been heavily hit. This week, 35 students and eight staff members recorded positives. Heritage Middle also has more active quarantines that any other school in the county (190), while Heritage High (160), Ringgold High (105) and Lakeview Middle (100) have higher numbers.
The Catoosa Public School System had 185 students and 28 staff cases this week from August 13-19.

The weather held up, so Ringgold High football is going to be in action tonight at Don Patterson Stadium. The first of two pre-season scrimmages will be under the lights tonight, while the regular season beckons two weeks hence.
WAAK, 94.7 FM, will bring you all the goings-on LIVE.

And wouldn't you know ... Ringgold-Adairsville softball cancelled (no makeup planned) due to lightning in the area. Tigers remain 1-1 with their next scheduled game the region opener, Thursday at 5:30 against visiting Sonoraville.
Hopefully -- again weather permitting -- we will broadcast next Tuesday's home game against Coahulla Creek.

Another school year, another softball season is under way for the defending Class AAA state champion Ringgold Tigers -- and WAAK will be there!
Today's home game against Adairsville is the second home contest for the 1-1 Tigers, following a win over Dade County in the home opener and a loss to the other state champion in Catoosa County, Heritage.
Game time is 5:30. If you can't make it, WAAK will be airing it LIVE at 5;15 with Jake Wade handling the call. Weather permitting, of course.
GO TIGERS

We were very much wondering if Andre Taver's sterling baseball career was over after the former two-sport all-stater from Ringgold was passed over in last month's amateur draft. Well, we need not wonder any long, as Tarver has signed a baseball scholarship at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens.
Taver, who turns 21 next month, played at Florida's Chipola College last season after turning down both a fifth-round draft offer from San Diego in 2019 as well as a scholarship to Mississippi State. This past year, the lefty hitter batted .305 with five home runs.

CATOOSA HAS BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS x 2
People smarter than me have long said that it is more difficult to defend a championshp that it is to win ouright. But it seems to me that a pair of wonderful Catroosa County softball program have laid that truism to rest.
This past weekend, the Ringgold Tigers (in Class AAA) and heritage Generals (in AAAA) added a 2020 GHSA state championship trophy to their 2019 haul. Likewise the Gordon Lee girls (in Class A Public) who own their division like the '27 Yankees (look it up!).
--------------
RINGGOLD REPEATS
The Lady Tigers (final record 27-11) had more comebacks than the McRib in taking down the rest of Class AAA. But more than anything, they were able to overcome their new region rival, Rockmart, when it counted.
Realignment meant that Calhoun was gone but Rockmart's formidable program arrived with a bang. The Yellowjackets (who ironically have the came nickname as Calhoun) won both regular season meetings, then won the region title by a 6-5 score.
Meeting in the state playoff semifinals, Rockmart won its fourth straight against the Tigers in eight innings, 7-6.
This meant that Ringgold not only would have to battle in the losers bracket, but defeat Rockmart twice in the finals. They earned the "if" game with a 9-2 victory over the Yellowjackets, but needed another eight-inning nailbiter, winning 7-6. But coach Daniel Hackett's Tigers trailed 6-0 in the third inning before turning it all around.
Baileigh Pitts jump-started the comeback with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third. They would add a fourth run in the inning on a Jade Gainer ground ball.
A Rockmart error in the fifth was costly as Addi Broome brought the run home with an RBI single. Jade Gainer tied the game in the sixth, but Ringgold stranded baserunners in every inning. The game-winner came in the eighth thanks to a pair a Rockmart errors and a perefect Jade Gainer bunt.
Taylor Layne earned the victory by working eight innings of relief after Rockmart jumped out in the first.
--------------
HERITAGE STEAMROLLS AAAA

Heritage entered the AAAA event as a favorite to earned its third straight state title thanks to a lineup that included six seniors and a 17-1 region record. But it almost failed to materialize as the Gens lost a 2-1 game in eight innings to Central Carrollton immediately after needing 10 innings to defeat West Laurens by an improbable 16-5 score.
Coach Tanner Moore's team was through with losing at that point, defeating West Laurens again before taking down Central Carrolton twice in a pair of games that were not for the faint of heart. They earned a winner-take-all game with a 3-2 win that saw the Generals fall behind 2-0 before rallying. Carmen Gaylor's two-run double in the second held up because Rachel Gibson slammed the door, striking out nine.
The finale belonged to Heritage by a 4-0 score as Gibson was able to following her nine-strikeout performance with a 10-strikeout shutout, allowing Central Carrolton only five hits with no walks. Sarah Haynes' RBI single in the fourth would prove to be enough, but a Savannah Wilson RBI hit and three Carrolltor errors gave Gibson three more runs to work with.

Saturday's noon contest with Coahulla Creek will be broadcast in its entirety MONDAY at 12 noon. This will be the only playback of Frank Santore's call of the game.

10/29/2020

The disruptions caused by the COVID virus go on and on. This week's varsity football game with Coahulla Creek has been moved to noon Saturday. But bacause of an inflexsible program schedule at WAAK, the game will not be heard until noon Monday on 94.7.

Another year, another Final Four for the Ringgold softball squad.
That doesn't mean it was easy. To get to the Class AAA semifinals, the Tigers had to trip up host Pierce County 5-4 on a 7th inning rally and 6-5 on a big defensive play by Amber Gainer -- who threw out the would-be tying run at the plate.
Round two was a easier day on the diamond, if not on the road, Hart County losing twice at home by scores of 9-5 and 13-1.
Ringgold opens final four play Saturday afternoon against Pike County.
Autumn Greeen was a game one standout Tuesday with three RBIs.

Tuesday, they ventured over to Elijay and mopped the floor with Region 7 champion Gilmer by scores of 6-3 and 9-1.
It was a huge day for Amber Gainer, who homered in each game and also tripled in the nightcap. Jade Gainer and Riley Nayadleey also homered in the opener.
Wins wengt to Alyissia Sue and Taylor Layne. Ringgold (19-10) next plays at Hart County Friday. The doubleheader begins at 4 p.m.

The Ringgold softball Tigers ended their regular season with a loss to Rockmart, but head into the region playoffs with an 11-6 record. Good luck to the ladies.

THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!!!

Ringgold Tigers already four games into the 2020 season, but after that long streak of bad luck, bad officiatng and bad football, the Tigers Friday night squared their record at 2-2 (1-1 in 6-AAA) with a 20-16 nail. biter over winless LFO.
The Warriors largely smothered the Tigers' emergng star, running back Kori "Mercury" Dumas. But when they got close, Dumas found paydirt twice, giving him 11 total touchdowns for the season.
The game-winning drive was a 17-play, 94 yard march in the fourth quarter after the defense recovered the Warriors' sixth fumble of the night inside the 5. Price Pennington bulled over from the 5 for the go-ahead score.
