I make food disappear...what’s your super power??
Most of my life was spent in a rural town. 4H was a huge part of that life growing up. My grandparents were farmers and I spent many hours as a little girl standing on a chair to reach the stove or sitting on a counter watching my Mamaw Dooly or my mom, Susan, cooking away and often times helping or the best part, getting to lick the spoon! I did cooking contests in 4H and loved making random foods at home. Raising animals often had me at the Webster Parish Fair and State Fair of Louisiana showing those animals for competition. As I grew older, my love for cooking grew and grew. I loved the magic of fair or festival food and would look forward to going every year and consuming my weight in funnel cakes and hand dipped corn dogs and large clouds of cotton candy. I enjoy bringing my own kids to the fair now and still enjoy that festival food. But something happened. I began to grow bored of the same greasy choices I grew to love. Fair after fair and street festival after street festival, bike rally after bike rally....it was all the same food- burgers, nachos, fries, corn dogs, turkey legs. Nothing excited my palate anymore. I was craving something new and different! So I began to brainstorm and that’s how The Fork Awakens was born. I began experimenting more with food, visiting South Louisiana and other food cultures as often as I could. Watching food show after food show. My husband took me to Ireland. I took all that info and began creating foods that were delicious and different and still worthy of being dubbed a Fair Food! So we bought a truck and began the conversion. I am beyond stoked to bring something new to our area. Food for every taste or occasion. Fun food that isn’t a normal menu item and will change with my whims for the day. Creations others aren’t serving up. My hope is to make great friends and have a beautiful future with my food truck, bringing those tastes of home together with culture and imagination to make The Fork Awaken!
