For a very long time, I have tried to emphasize the importance of learning both roles in ballroom dance. Learning how to follow teaches you how to be a better lead, and learning how to lead teaches you how to be a better follow.
But convincing people to compete in the opposite roll has been difficult, since, because of the point system, someone that is a certain level as a lead would have to compete that level as a follow, since there is no way to differentiate your level in one role vs the other.

But now that we have created LilacDB, and therefore access to tons of data, you can now, using LilacDB, calculate your level as specific roles, rather than just as a person.

One of my many missions with this studio is to help push the ballroom community into the future, and so, this is my formal announcememt of LilacDB!
As I am sure many of you know, ballroom competitions can be scored in many different ways. A scrutineer can either score competitions by hand, or you can use software like o2cm, Ballroom Comp Express, DSCO, or many other variations to automatically score competitions. The issue, however, is that this data is now spread out all over the internet.
The objective of LilacDB is to not only consolidate this data, but also provide addtional useful information to dancers. As of right now, (using o2cm and DSCO data) it can tell you your level and your YCN points. We are working on many new (and really exciting) upgrades and features that will be coming very soon, so stay tuned!

So, we have been working with DSCO to provide live competitor levels (as specified by YCN) for upcoming competitions, and this feature is now live with Columbia University's Big Apple Dancesport Challenge! But, this feature has been live for a while now. Today's update however, is increasing the speed at which these levels are calculated. Look how fast it is!
