Dr. Drake Dantzler just wrapped up an incredible six-week journey teaching “La Traviata: The Best of Opera” at the Meer Apartments on the Jewish Senior Life Campus in West Bloomfield as part of Oakland University’s Continuing Education.

The class of lifelong learners delved into the magic of opera, discovering the rich world of operatic and theatrical conventions, and exploring different voice types.

The grand finale? A spectacular outing to witness Detroit Opera’s production on October 27th. Such a beautiful opportunity to share the passion for opera and theater with an amazing community! 🎭❤️

Join us on Saturday, November 23rd at 8:00 pm in the Varner Recital Hall for the fall Oakland University Latin Jazz Ensemble and the Oakland University Big Band concert.

Both ensembles will be joined by master percussionist Dr. Olman Piedra.

The OU Latin Jazz Ensemble performs music from legendary Cuban and Brazilian artists including Chucho Valdez, Eddie Palmieri and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

The OU Big Band will be performing works highlighting the breadth of the big band tradition, including arrangements of works by Cole Porter, Mongo Santamaria, Duke Ellington, and more.

African Ensemble (Akwaaba) and Steel Band (Pan-Jumbies). Akwaaba will present traditional Ewe and Dagomba music from Ghana, West Africa. Pan-Jumbies will feature classic Calypso and modern Steel Band music. Mark Stone and Patrick Fitzgibbon, directors.
