The largest festival of its kind in North America began 126 years ago and continues to be inspired by the magnificent lilac collection at Highland Park — 500 varieties of lilacs on more than 1,200 bushes. Highland Park was designed by New York City's Central Park architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. Visitors can enjoy the park's gardens, as well as enjoy entertainment including national headline conc
erts, exhibitors, food vendors, Kids' Zone, Art & Craft Show, the Lilac Run and the televised Lilac Parade. Saturday May 11, and presents dozens of marching bands, decorated floats, clowns, dancers and costumed characters. The festival is a joint venture of Monroe County Parks, City of Rochester, and VisitRochester convention and visitors bureau. It is weather-dependent but the lilac are expected to be in full bloom during the festival.
