“It was always my position that, even during COVID, even during the worst [times], people want to be together,” says Malloy. His company rolled into February 2020 after what he called the “craziest 18 months” of his company’s history, propelled in large part by presidential campaign events, only to enter a “devastating” period that required him to lay off many employees, and wondering whether the disruption would last for weeks, months or years.

“For me, it was waiting for everything to settle back down,” and for people to gather again, as they always had, he says. “I don’t think that’s ever going to change. People are going to want to be together.”

Stanchions - In event management, a stanchion is an upright bar or post with retractable belts, velvet ropes, or plastic chains, and frequently used for crowd control, engineering people flow, and worksite safety. These can be used to block out areas for event staff, off limit areas, or even lining a red carpet!

Event Tip - Surprise! Stanchions can actually be designed to match the color palette as well with the interchangeable ropes that are connected to the poles.

Speaker Stand - A speaker stand can be raised to various heights with a loudspeaker placed on top to elevate the sound and project throughout the event space.

Event Tip - Make sure to place these at a level and in an area that allows the entire space to hear the sound. But be careful to not set up this equipment in an area that could be dangerous - in the middle of a room, in a direct walking path, etc. Stick to corners and areas barricaded by bike rack or stanchions.

Bike Rack - Easily moveable aluminum gates, bike rack is similar to stanchions in providing barriers to section off areas at events. A bike rack is also used to surround the event space as a whole, making a perimeter at many outdoor events and larger event spaces.

Event Tip - Make sure to have enough staff and crew members to be able to move the bike rack at any moment as it can be an awkward and heavy piece of equipment for only a few people to move by themselves.

Entrance Vignette - The focal point that creates an event's first impression when guests arrive. Usually consisting of drapery, themed decor, branding and lighting that encompasses the entrance into the event space.

Event Tip - Drapes and sheers of all colors and textures can be added to entrance vignettes to capture the guests attention as soon as they walk into the event! But simple is best for some events - make sure to know your theme and stick to it so guests can see the full picture right away.

Front of House - This is the area that, blocked off by stanchions or bicycle racks, is designated for event staff and technicians. Creating a barrier for these individuals to have an assigned area makes running the event a lot smoother!

Event Tip - Make sure to select this area up towards the beginning of the event set up as it is important for the team to have a space during the event. As tables, chairs, and other decor items are placed, there will be a limited amount of area for the front of the house.

Event Tip - First determine the theme of your event. This will make deciding on creative and special lighting fixtures much easier as they can be customized for your event! Step and Repeat - A photo opportunity for guests to stop and take a picture in front of at an event to create a lasting memory of the evening. Step and repeats are made up of pipe and drape backdrop, with the addition of a client branded 8 x 10’ backdrop that is dressed up with sheets, decor, and sometimes flowers or other decor elements.

Event Tip - Determine how to best design your Step and Repeat backdrop by imagining how it will look with people in front of it! You want to make sure your logo or other designs are not covered.

We played a small part in brining this event to life.

Thanks to Kate Malloy, owner of Purple Finch Events for contracting with us to help produce The Seacoast Culinary Challenge with the team from Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Foundation.

Kate and the WDH team had a vision of creating an event like the TV show Chopped.. but live in front of an audience... and on a stage. They built out a full working kitchen for four chefs with ovens, cook tops, and working stations. A major logistical effort, while creating a beautiful and enjoyable event for the guests.

The show was hosted by 3 time Chopped Champion Evan Hennessey who owns the Dover Restaurant Stages at One Washington and “Ciao Italia” TV cooking show host and cookbook author Mary Ann Esposito.

The event hosted at The Music Hall featured competing chefs David Vargas of Vida Cantina NH, Julie Cutting of Cure Restaurant , David Crinieri, culinary director of Tuscan Brands, Toscana Italian Chophouse & Wine Bar and Jay Curcio of The White Apron, a catering company based in Dover.

Thank you to the in-house production team at the music hall for being such gracious hosts and talented professionals. Zhana, Jason, Ian, Drew, Aidin, Liz, Caley and we got to work with Michael Tucker again!!!

Our team helped execute the "make this look and feel like the TV show Chopped'" portion of the event. Our director Jay Childs and his team from JBC Communications made the camera magic happen! Thanks to Jay D, Mike, Brian and Dominique.
The beautiful floral installations were made by the talented team at In Bloom Weddings and Events

Upright - The pipe that creates the height of your display. They are adjustable in size and have an opening at the top where the crossbar hooks onto

Cross Bar - The pipe that sets the width of your display, and the piece that you use to hang your drapes
