Join us Monday, June 3 from 6-8pm for Mondays at Geva! This event will feature an exhibit from artist Lavonne Barfield-Wilson who draws inspiration from a THE COLOR PURPLE quote of Shug Avery when she says to Celie, “I think it pi**es God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it…People think pleasing God is all God cares about. But any fool living in the world can see it always trying to please us back.” The exhibit will be composed of mixed media and acrylic on canvas pieces all incorporating the color purple in different hues, values, textures, and forms.

Lavonne Barfield-Wilson of LoveOn Artwork Originals is a God-gifted, multi-faceted artist and educator, who believes Art is a form of communicating with God. Art is helpful, Art is healing, Art is Necessary, Art is Love and everything is always better with Love On It!

Recently, playwright Dan O'Brien had the opportunity to write about his journey with Newtown - "I wanted to write about Sandy Hook. But I was frightened. Could I find any hope and light?". Read the full piece, published in Esquire, here.

The writer of 'Newtown' on what the play is—and why he wrote it.

04/26/2024

The World Premiere of Newtown is a fictional response to the tragic event at Sandy Hook Elementary School and focuses on the personal stories of the families impacted right before and five-weeks following the shooting, their search for healing and hope, and the possibility of forgiveness. Newtown is derived closely from documentary source material and is running on the Wilson Stage through May 12. Visit our website or call our Box Office at 585-232-4382 to secure your tickets now.
