•Constructed in 1931-32 as the United States Post Office and Courthouse, the Federal Building
•The Federal Building was the most accomplished piece of architecture in the City. It was later renamed the Tom S. Gettys Center in honor of Tom Gettys, postmaster from 1952 to 1954, who later represented Rock Hill in the United States House of Representatives.
•In 1971,A much larger post office was constructed in an urban renewal area at the edge of downtown to replace the Federal Building.
•In 1986, the City of Rock Hill purchased the building from the United States Postal Service for $280,000. The building was added to the national historic register and housed the local Congressman’s office, the York County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Rock Hill Arts Council.
•Since 1996, the space has been used to house arts organizations including the S.C. Arts Alliance, Arts Council of York County, and Friday Arts Project.
•In 2006, the first floor was renovated to accommodate the Rock Hill Pottery Center.
•In 2007-2009, the historic courtroom was renovated, funded by a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission, The matching funds were provided by the Arts Council and the York County Bar Association. Three of the four floors are now occupied with artist studios, galleries and arts affiliated businesses. The 3rd floor is occupied by the City Solicitor’s Office.
