Rockford Certified Slam

The Rockford Certified Slam is the only Poetry Slam, Inc. certified venue in Rockford. We are located in the Nordlof Center in Rockford, Illinois.

This event is free to attend and repeats on the third Tuesday of every month at 6PM in the Nordlof Center. The format is comprised of an open mic followed by a poetry slam. You do not need to sign up prior to the event for either the open mic or the poetry slam. There are no rules for the open mic except that your performance must be under ten minutes; you do not have to perform poetry at the open

mic. To participate in the poetry slam, the rules are as follows. You must bring two poems of under three minutes each. They must be original works written by the competitor. No costumes, props, or musical accompaniment are permitted. Three randomly chosen judges from the audience will give each poem a score from zero to ten. The top three poets from the first round will then advance to the second round. Cheesy dollar store prizes will be awarded accordingly. New performers are always welcome.
