To our members, friends, and the community,

We wanted to address some questions we have been receiving in the community regarding the closure of the Columbia Social Club.

The Columbia Social Club was created to support the charitable mission of the Rockland Knights of Columbus. For 50 years, the Columbia Social Club has been a home for our members and their spouses to socialize and build on our core mission of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. And for many of you in the community, you shared many family events through renting our hall, which aided in the support of our core mission.

As has been the case for many of our Brother Knights across the region and nation, we have made the difficult decision to close the Columbia Social Club. This is in no way ANYONE'S fault, but a microcosm of a changing society in which many are not joining social orders anymore, and the members who came before us that built our club are no longer with us. We thank EVERY member, past and present, for their contribution to the social club and owe them a debt of gratitude for their work and dedication.

So what does this mean for the Rockland Knights of Columbus? We want to unequivocally state that our mission and core principles will continue in Rockland. We were established as the 165th Council in an order that now numbers over 15,000 Councils. We were founded in Rockland in April of 1896--127 years ago. We look forward to continuing for 127 more years and beyond. The closure of our building will no doubt result in a transition period, but we remain confident and steadfast in continuing the work of the Knights of Columbus and remaining a part of the Rockland community through our support of Holy Family Parish, seniors, veterans, and distributing scholarships to qualifying graduating High School seniors.

We thank you for your support and generosity over the years, and look forward to continuing to be a part of the community.

Mexican Martyr, St. José Maria Robles displayed great courage during the Cristero Wars. When public religious services were suspended, he remained with his people, hidden in private homes. If anyone suggested that he flee, he would answer: “A pastor never abandons his sheep.”

Let us use this day of rest to reflect on Pope St. John Paul II’s wise reminder, “It is always the human person who is the purpose of work. It must be said over and over again that work is for man, not man for work.” Happy Labor Day!

The Knights of Columbus stands with its members, their families, and others in need in Ukraine. Knights in Poland have begun to deliver supplies — including medicine, generators, sleeping bags and other necessities — to the Archdiocese of Lviv in western Ukraine, and are also providing shelter for refugees. You can help today by donating to the Order’s Ukraine Solidarity Fund. One-hundred percent of your donation goes directly to provide humanitarian relief.
