One of our favorite things to recommend adding to your timeline at Castle Green is the Staircase Grand Entrance. You can do this in lieu of the traditional Reception Grand Entrance where the DJ announces you into the ballroom. It's fun for everyone involved and makes for a great photo opportunity. We encourage you to "welcome" your guests with a short thank you toast because they'll be so eager to hear from you. You can also join them for a giant group photo before heading into the ballroom for dinner.

A live painter is one of the most unique ways couples can "entertain" their guests but also come home with a keepsake. is easily one of the most talented people I have ever come across because look at this! Guests who breezed by her during cocktail hour were "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing", and some even stopped to watch while Nicolette did her thing. If you're on the fence about adding a live-painter for your day, just do it!

9 years ago today my husband proposed......and it was a total shock to me! He was (and still is) quite the crafty person when it comes to surprises. When we were dating, he'd send over cupcakes, cookies, treats - even the car wash guy to wash my car. Haha!

And on this day 9 years ago it was no different. I planned a hike for us in Laguna Beach that Saturday so that we could go eat at our favorite afterwards. Key words: "I planned" because you bet your bottom dollar I did not plan on getting engaged that day LOL!

My sister also decided to join us last minute which worked out well because she's the one that took this photo of us on the beach. He filled her in on his plan sometime before we had brunch. And it was common for us to go on walks along the beach so I had nothing on my radar.

As we walked, I was admiring the water and the waves while he was looking for an empty spot without too many people to propose. When he finally found the right spot, he stopped me and we looked at each other and embraced. I don't exactly remember what he said, and when he got down on one knee I definitely was a deer caught in the headlights. He said some more things and pulled out a ring box. At this point I thought it was a joke because there was a skittles commercial at the time where a guy proposed with a box of skittles. But when he opened it and I saw a ring I screamed/cried - all of the above.

It was the perfect proposal for us - at our favorite place in the world: the beach. Laguna Beach will always have a special place in my heart.

NOTE to those wanting to propose: if you're not usually the one doing the planning, fit your proposal in to your partner's plans. They will never catch on and it's the perfect way to surprise them!

Coming from a commercial print and design background, I have a great appreciation for a well-designed invitation suite. This one was no exception! The bride designed this suite herself, which includes this amazing floral design that was printed and embossed onto the gate-folded outer layer of the invitation. Gorgeous!

What's your take on flower baskets versus bouquets? I personally LOVE this idea so much! The handles on the basket allows for easy handling and carrying during the ceremony. And the flat bottom of the basket makes it easy to repurpose. Swipe to the second photo to see how we reused these!

My couples often ask me what they should include on their dinner tables because their worry is tables looking too empty. What's important to remember here is that your decor (whether it be florals, accessories, etc.) won't be the only thing on the table top. You'll have dinnerware, glassware, food and sometimes more which all quickly take up valuable space. I love the less is more approach, like what A+C did here for their reception at La Venta Inn. A simple but beautiful centerpiece including candles, a table number and a single menu. Because as you can see here, all the other dinnerware and accessories also take up space. Very well done in my opinion!

Wanting to do a grand exit for the end of your reception without having to extend or shift your photo/video timing? Consider doing a Faux Exit like H+H did here for their special day. Before their photo team's departure, we gathered guests who wanted to participate (and usually everyone does!) along with the lanterns they prepared for us. And this is what we came up with, which I think came out beautifully!

The newlyweds then led everyone back inside and on the dance floor to continue the party till the end of the night. A win-win for everyone!

Want to dance under the stars indoors? Have twinkle lights installed above to set the mood. The venue provided the draping and we had SPR install twinkle lights underneath said draping for a very soft and romantic feel. Safe to say our bride (and groom) loved it!

Looking to add something fun to your reception program? How about a trivia game of the two of you? One of our favorites to recommend is the shoe game! In your hands you'll have one of your shoes and one of your partner's, and your MC will ask you questions about each other. You'll lift the shoe of the person who corresponds with that answer. It's a lot of fun and guests enjoy learning a little bit more about you. It takes around 10 minutes or so and is so much fun!
