We’re thrilled to announce that our Senior Vice President of EHS & Sustainability, Patrick Whalen, has also been named one of Waste 360's 40 Under 40 winners! 🎉🍾 Motivated by a deep personal commitment to safety, Patrick’s leadership is driven by the desire to prevent others from experiencing the tragedy he faced at 19, when a shot-put accident profoundly impacted his life. This experience inspired his mission to ensure every individual returns home safely, just as they arrived. Since joining LRS in 2024, his leadership has helped reduce our Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) by nearly 50% year-over-year. Thank you for your dedication, Patrick! 🙏🙌

Our very own Director of Sustainability, Joy Rifkin has been recognized as a winner of Waste 360's 40 Under 40! 🙌🎉 Joy has spent nearly a decade transforming the waste and recycling industry, from championing climate action at the University of Wisconsin–Madison to launching NYC’s largest Zero Waste Schools Program, diverting over 15,000 tons of waste in its first year. At LRS, she has been integral to launching our inaugural sustainability report, building strong partnerships with local school districts, leading tours at The Exchange and training future environmental stewards. Her efforts continue to reduce environmental impact, elevate industry standards and inspire the next generation of leaders. Thank you, Joy, for all you do. 🙏🌱

Snow is forecasted in our service areas on Wednesday, February 12 and is expected to continue into Thursday morning, which may impact service. Our team is closely monitoring conditions, and any service delays or cancellations will be shared on our website and on our local pages.

To help ensure safe and uninterrupted service, please follow these winter weather tips: ✔️ Set carts out the night before to avoid potential delays
✔️ Clear a path around your trash and recycling carts
✔️ Use salt where carts will be placed to prevent slipping
✔️ Place carts on a flat, accessible area away from snowdrifts
✔️ Keep lids closed to prevent snow buildup and wind-blown debris

❄️ Winter is giving our Christmas trees an extra frosty touch! If your trees are covered in snow, frozen to the ground, or not easily accessible, don't worry. We'll pick them up as soon as the temperature allows us to safely remove them.

Great news! 🌱 Tuesday, January 16 organics are getting a second chance tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17.

Wednesday is the day! 🚛 Last Friday's, January 12 missed trash and recycling services are rolling out tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17.

🏡 Highwood Trash Operations:
Hang tight! 🔄 Highwood trash operations are shifting to Thursday, January 18.

📅 Highland Park Thursday Operations - All-Inclusive:
New date alert! 🗓️ Thursday, January 18 operations, including trash, recycling, and organics, are making a move to Friday, January 19.

🚚 Highland Park Friday Operations - All-Inclusive:
New date alert! 🗓️ Friday, January 19 operations, covering trash, recycling, and organics, will now be collected on Saturday, January 20.

Montgomery - Your trash and recycling if not already picked up is getting collected this morning so wheel your cart out.

Cortland & Campton Township - We are getting to you over today and tomorrow so carts out both days if you've still got trash and recycling in them.

DeKalb - We are working to hard to get to you before Friday, so stay tuned for updates as we get them.

📣 Important Winter Update for Wilmette!

🚛 The missed trash and recycling pickups on Friday in Wilmette have been rescheduled. Our trucks are hitting the streets at 6 am tomorrow, Sunday, January 14, to collect the missed pickups. Don't forget to put your bins out! ♻️🗑️

The Mayor of Cortland has some updates for you!

IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM LRS 1/13/2024! They indeed are going to offer a pickup prior to Friday. LRS - DC Recycling

Mon & Tues, Jan 15th & 16th, with weather permitting, LRS will send crews through Cortland to recover uncollected refuse from Friday, Jan 12th due to the snow storm.

Please have everything curbside on Monday by 6 am.

Pick up may be anytime Monday or Tuesday as they work through these wintery conditions for the safest approach to recover.

Given freezing temps, bear with LRS crews dealing with frozen ‘stuff’!

Frozen Christmas Trees may be left and collected the following week (or when they are defrosted enough to safely remove).

Please make sure your carts are upright, lid opening facing the street, with a clear path for drivers to access and place carts/cans back down.

If you prefer to wait until your regular pick up on Friday, Jan 19th to put it all out, no problem - LRS will pick it up.

🚛 Recovery Mission:
Weather permitting, our drivers will be cruising through to scoop up any Friday, January 12 leftovers from the snow shenanigans.

⏰ Curbside Call:
Have everything curbside by Monday, 6 am. Pick up might swing by anytime on Monday or Tuesday as we navigate these wintery vibes for the safest recovery.

🌬️ Frozen Funkiness:
Bear with us! Freezing temps got our crews dealing with frozen cart lids, bags, and materials.

🎄 Christmas Tree Tango:
Frozen trees? No prob! We'll snag 'em the following week when they've defrosted enough to safely dance out.

♻️ Cart Etiquette Check:
Make sure your carts strike a pose: upright, lids facing the street, with a clear path for our drivers to groove in and place carts/cans.

🗓️ Patient Pick-Up Option:
Wanna wait for the Friday, January 19 regular pick-up? No worries! We'll catch it then.
