Giving Thanksgiving for Every Good Thing — by Ken Birks

Today we celebrate Thanksgiving. May we be reminded of all that we have been given in Christ. Here’s a poem that helps us to be thankful on this day and throughout all eternity.

Psalm 107:31 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

With the slate wiped clean, we speak with a new script.
Making all things new, His wind blows upon the spirit.
With new perspectives on life, we speak accordingly.
No longer caught in meaningless chatter, we speak.
His word filling, new things are spoken into existence.

His blood washing, we speak according to the hope within.
No longer weighed down by the past, we confess His greatness.
More than conquerors, we believe in the greatness of His power.
Walking in His inheritance, we speak according to His calling.
Giving Thanksgiving every good thing, He leads triumphantly.

With the same spirit of faith as Jesus, we believe and speak.
With confession no longer based on uncertainties, we walk.
No longer driven by past failures, His word, we communicate.
Fully convinced of His promises, we go from faith to faith.
Knowing He works, leaving nothing undone, we give thanks.

Amid uncertainties, His word as a lamp, we move forward.
Given all things in life, we speak according to the promise.
As He cares for lilies and birds of the air, He cares for us.
Without thought for provision, we speak according to His word.
Without worry, we press on in faith, believing, giving thanks.

With faith in His covenant promises, we believe and speak.
Wavering not in unbelief, we push towards the promise.
With His promises, yea and amen, we rise to the challenge.
Resting in His sufficiency, no longer trusting in ours, we speak.
With divine abilities at work, we give thanks in all good things.

Congrats to Gabriel and Pattie, who tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at one of the Apple Hill venues near Placerville. It was overcast and cold leading up to the ceremony, but as soon as the ceremony started the sun came out and warmed everyone up. As soon as the ceremony was over it went back to being cloudy.

Freed from Concerns that Dominate — by Ken Birks

In a world dominated by human concerns, we struggle.
Concerned about life’s issues, in chaos, we crumble.
Struggling to be free, we question thoughts that trouble.
Immersed in the surrounding chaos, we gain to lose.
Our minds filled with anxiety and worry; we confuse.

Life imploding, as problems intensify, we look for direction.
Looking to the heavens above, we ask and seek protection.
Questioning, we ponder the divine ability given to sustain.
Hearing, “Turning our hearts toward God’s concerns,” we listen.
Within, a gentle voice whispers amid the chaos, giving vision.

In humility, without feeling defensive, we listen for insight.
Guided by God’s word, we look for solutions that dissipate.
Desiring freedom from all dominating concerns, we search.
Looking to the words of Jesus, we discover the cross, once lost.
Once mislaid, the cross fully embraced, in assurance, we trust.

Peace filling the heart in all circumstances; new life appears.
Like Mary, choosing the good part, we sit at His feet without tears.
Filled with peace, insight fills the mind with hope, without fears.
Empowered to dominate amid the chaos, He makes us whole.
Embracing His yoke, burdens lifted, He’s now in full control.

Prayer — Thank you, Lord, that I can cast all my cares on You, rather than being overly concerned with the cares that try to dominate my thinking. Help me be faithful to sit at Your feet and learn how to cast my cares and concerns upon You continually.
