Help us hit our $1000 mark to celebrate Jamie’s 50th birthday and help fund our projects for 2024 for the Gardens here at Festival Hill Institute!

We are hoping to finish the signage for our new birding trails, are looking to restore a greenhouse that is in disrepair, and create a pollinators garden on the berm that greats everyone to our campus!

Helping hands needed! Come join us for another fun community day of service at Festival Hill Institute. The Festival Hill Gardens and Grounds Volunteer Group are preparing our old trails for some new occasions. Bring a few friends and come make some new ones as we prepare this area for joggers, explorers, and especially bird enthusiasts!

Shout out to Ann and Eric Wilson for coming out to our May Volunteer Event and leading a team of 7 at Ann's Arbor, a beautiful picnic spot under a canopy of Lenoir grapes near the pond and stone bridge at Festival Hill.

They showed the team many herbs and natives and how to tell the difference between them and common w**ds! Today the area got a nice new layer of mulch! More photos to come soon!

Our next shout out from our May Volunteer Event goes out to Nicole Petrie and Paloma Pinedo!! They teamed up to spruce up the right-hand side of the Menke Dining Facility with new plants, w**d removal, and mulch. Their crew did a fantastic job replanting and clearing out some saplings tangled in the landscaping!

We just finished off the new mulch. Can you believe it took TWO TONS of mulch for both sides of the Menke house? It is really looking amazing now!

And a huge shout out to Chris Bachman for leading a group to repaint the benches- don't they look fabulous!!

Today I'd like to give a shout out to David and Courtney Kieke's family, as well as Amber
for being awesome team leaders during our May Volunteer Event.

Courtney Kieke headed up the second team working to replant the landscaping, install w**d barrier, and mulch on the left-hand side of the Menke House. She was joined by her mother, Zella, and Andrea Davis and several youngsters. Some of the younger volunteers were quite captivated by roly-poly's and learned so much about carefully planting new plants. Grant really enjoyed helping to lay out the plants in a balanced arrangement.

Then David Kieke and Amber headed up the team of boys on the West End of the Concert Hall. Five boys, all helped to lay w**d barrier, plant beautiful white gardenias, purple dianthus, pink salvia, and royal blue sage. Then they carefully mulched around each plant. It looks fabulous!

And a big shout out to Henry Flowers with Glasco Landscaping in Brenham for helping us secure plants for this day! They look fabulous, thank you!

We wanted to thank each of you for your dedication to Festival Hill. Our May Garden and Grounds Volunteer Day was a wonderful success thanks to many of you that were able to join us for some friendship and gardening on the grounds. We had 35 volunteers and were able to break up into five groups around campus!

Over the next week, I'll be posting some before and after pictures of some of our efforts.

First up, Jamie Lee Manning headed up the 'Cisco' de Mayo team on May 6th. Cisco Pinedo, with the support of his amazing family and especially his niece Paloma Pinedo (and Jamie!!), helped us create this incredible volunteer program in order to restore the extensive gardens at Festival Hill.

Jamie's team demoed an old bed along the walkway from the Menke Dining Facility towards the Concert Hall- her team finished off the bed with Cinco de Mayo roses, w**d barrier, mulch and stone edging! They chipped out stumps and rebar and was an impressive force -what a team to work with! Jamie made a fantastic reel that you can find on our Instagram page, , highlighting each of the volunteers and projects for the day!

The gardens at Festival Hill are really beginning to thrive! With lots of help from our local friends we have the Mary Garden looking beautiful, a new Kitchen Garden for our chefs to use, and the Pharmacy Garden has been spruced up for company. Come visit our beautiful campus gardens, pack a lunch and enjoy the beautiful spring weather with a friend!

Come join us on Saturday, May 6, 2023 for our next Volunteer Service Day!!
We start at 9:30 am with check-in and light breakfast snacks provided by local businesses in the Yellow School Building at Festival Hill. After an overview of our project areas for the day, we will gear up and get started. Our May project will encompass the Menke Dining Facility, where we will put in some new plants to showcase the Menke historic home, clear up some overgrown areas behind the building, and trim up some trees. We typically last until noon when we wrap up the event and enjoy lunch together provided by one of our local partners.

At Festival Hill Gardens and Grounds, we’d like to give a heart-felt thank you to the amazing family of Cisco Pinedo. The Pinedo family came forth and was instrumental in helping us not only get our Volunteer Service Days up and running, but also opened the door to community involvement with our neighboring businesses here in Round Top, Texas.
Everyone involved felt broken by the tragic loss of Cisco, but his energy, devotion, and neighborly love will help drive our mission forward. To all who knew him, he will never be forgotten and always cherished. Let us remember to bring forth with each new day some of his charisma and love for others, remembering how precious our time together is.
Thank you Pinedo family, for touching our lives here at Festival Hill Gardens. May the Lord shine his face on you, bless you, and give you peace.

Thank you to everyone that made our last Volunteer Service Day an absolute success! It was a bit drizzly, but these awesome volunteers came out and made the day so much fun! Thank you, Jamie Lee Manning, for creating this awesome reel of the day, I hope you can all view it.
