Meet one of the largest scorpion species in the world, the Emperor Scorpion (Pandinus imperator). Mine is an adult female. These scorpions are native to the rainforests of Western Africa. On average, these scorpions can live for about 7 years.

Found on the island of Palawan within the Philippines can you find the Palawan Stag Beetle (Dorcus titanus palawanicus). This particular one that I’m holding is a male. There’s no confusing the males and females apart from this species. The males are big-bodied and are equipped with massive mandibles. The females however are much smaller in body size and have incredibly small mandibles.

I bring to you the largest species of millipede on planet earth, the Giant African Millipede (Archispirostreptus gigas)! These large terrestrial arthropods can be found in East African countries. On estimate, this species of millipede can contain about 400 legs total when fully grown! They can reach an average length of 13 inches, with some individuals reaching lengths of 15 inches! Unlike centipedes, which are carnivorous, millipedes are detritivores. Detritivores are animals that feed on dead organic matter, such as rotting wood, dead leaves, and other organic compost. They will also happily feed on fruits and vegetables as well. When disturbed, these guys will go into a defense spiral where they cover their head for protection. Once curled up, they will often release a toxic fluid from small pores within their exoskeleton. This toxic substance contains hydrogen cyanide. From personal experience with owning this millipede, the smell of it is incredibly strong and very distasteful. Many of the smaller species of centipedes feed mostly on tiny insects and other small bodied arthropods. However, giant centipedes like the one that I’m holding, have been seen feeding on large prey, such as frogs, small lizards, mice, and even bats! Using their incredibly sharp flesh piercing appendages called forcipules, the giant centipede bites into its prey, injecting it with a potent venom to subdue its victim. From my personal experience, giant centipedes seem to bring out a lot of fear in many people. However, I feel that they are highly misunderstood creatures that get a lot of bad reputation.
