In the heart of Texas, where the prairie winds blow,
A tale of valor and sacrifice, I shall bestow,
Of a former state trooper, steadfast and true,
Whose life's journey took a fateful turn, he knew.
Halfway between Cisco and Rising Star's embrace,
He answered a call, a domestic violence case,
For twenty-one years, he served with pride,
As a guardian of peace, no challenge to hide.
From dusty trails to the deep woodland glades,
He served as a game warden, where justice cascades,
With a heart of compassion and courage untold,
He protected the wild, both timid and bold.
But one fateful day, a perilous call,
A domestic dispute, amidst anger's thrall,
He raced to the scene, a hero's intent,
To bring calm and peace, wherever he went.
Through the rolling fields and amber skies,
His siren sang out, a warning to the wise,
Yet danger awaited, lurking unseen,
As he faced the unknown, his heart serene.
In the face of danger, he stood tall,
A sentinel of justice, ready to enthrall,
But amidst the chaos, a gunshot rang clear,
And in that cruel moment, life's path veered.
He fell wounded, a brave soul laid low,
Yet his spirit endured, a resilient glow,
In the line of duty, he made his stand,
A symbol of courage for the law's firm hand.
The community mourned, tears freely shed,
For a trooper who'd served, now resting in bed,
But his legacy lived on, an unwavering flame,
In the hearts of those who'd invoke his name.
For heroes never perish; they're immortal, you see,
Their bravery echoes through eternity,
And on the roads he'd patrolled with care,
His memory lingered in the prairie air.
So let us remember this trooper so dear,
Whose sacrifice etched on history's frontier,
In the annals of courage, he forever remains,
A guardian of justice, despite life's strains.
