The Green River Plantation is a beautiful, historic mansion located in Polk County, North Carolina with a Rutherfordton, NC street address. Today, the Green River Plantation sits amid 356 untouched acres in the Western North Carolina foothills. The plantation is open to the public by reservation only, and is available for all types of events. The stately mansion has been lovingly restored and is o

pen for tours daily by reservation only. It was the year 1987 when the current owners, the Cantrell's, took on the restoration project. Ellen Cantrell's grandfather shared the idea with her that he would have liked to have owned this place in his lifetime. She was only 10 years old at the time, but for many years she kept the dream in her heart that maybe one day she might fulfill her grandpa's vision. In 1985 Eugene & Ellen Cantrell viewed the home, but it was not until 1987 that they actually had the opportunity to purchase the estate. Today, the Green River Plantation is owned and maintained by the Cantrell family. Amanda Cantrell, daughter, and her staff at Green River Plantation LLC and Green River Catering, prepare meals for plantation guests. Meals are served by reservation and there must be a group of 10 or more to set up a luncheon or dinner. There are many times that smaller groups may be added together, the holidays are a perfect time for this, because there are so many groups to accommodate. The meals can be served in different areas of the plantation; indoor and outdoor options are available. The plantation offers an array of services from tours of the mansion, weddings, receptions, reunions, church and family gatherings.

Although this has been a tough year, we still have many things to be thankful for. We have been providing a buffet service on Thanksgiving Day for more than 15 years and this year we will truly miss seeing all of you and enjoying the great music. We pray for everyone in NC affected by Hurricane Helene. Two months later we are still in cleanup. Hopefully we can rebuild and provide this service to the community in the future. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Today we started the tedious task of the removal of sheet rock, insulation, and plastic from the gatehouse walls. It’s been over a month since hurricane Helene flooded the building and the water is just trapped in the walls. Thanks to some recent donations we were able to pay some helpers to assist us in starting the removal. It’s a long process and we’re just taking a step at a time.

We are a little over a month into cleanup at Green River Plantation from hurricane Helene. Both our Gatehouse and outdoor Pavilion were destroyed. We would like to thank the folks that have reached out to assist with donations for clean up. As many people know, we did not have flood insurance and we are struggling, hoping that FEMA will be of some assistance. We are currently working on another outdoor wedding, but we thought we would share what it was like just before and right after Hurricane Helene flooded our valley on the Green River.

Please continue to pray for western NC and its recovery.

I don not know how we did it, but 1 month after Helene, we were able to successfuly complete a beautiful wedding this past weekend. While our Gate House is still in a destructive state, we were able to complete enough repairs to outdoor pavilion to proceed with this event.
Congratulations to Alison and Jason on their wedding. We truly appreciate you hanging in there with us through the on going cleanup. We wish you all the joy and happiness in the future! We also want to express a big Thank you to Tina who helped with the added accents to ceremony and reception. This truly was a beautiful day. Please share images from the day when you can.
Much love, Amanda

On Friday Sept 27, 2024 by 9:00 pm the Green River had overflowed its banks to fill the entire valley. The peak water level was 5 feet inside our gate house event facility. This facility contains our commercial kitchen and is home to our entire catering company. Now that the water has receded and the cleanup will begin, we have come to the realization that we will not be able to host events in this building for at least the coming year if not indefinitely. It’s heartbreaking to realize how many businesses have been destroyed like ours in a matter of hours. Please pray for all of Western North Carolina, we need it. Much Love, Amanda

I want to extend a huge Thank you to our neighbors for canoeing us
into the plantation tonight and keeping us safe.. We currently have a lake in the front of the plantation house. Our Gate House building is totally under water and so is our Pavilion. Everything is destroyed. But the plantation house so far is safe. God Bless everyone in this time of need. Prayers for our neighbors in Chimney Rock.
