As you get ready for all your Halloween, Oktoberfest, and Fall Renaissance events, we'll be extending our days and hours to help you out as best we can. We'll start with being open Mondays starting with this coming Monday September 23rd, and then beginning October 1st, we'll be open longer hours and we'll be open the last 2 Sundays as well. We'll be open 10am to 8pm, Monday through Friday, and 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays (the 20th and the 28th only).

So come on in and get those costumes reserved before they're all gone - and have a Happy Halloween!

Even though they're on the east coast in Maryland and we don't know them personally, we do know how hard it must be to try to run a small business and then to suffer damage like this fire did to them. We just wanted to thank all our customers who help support us as a small business, as we were able to help support Gene's Costume Shop through their GoFundMe effort.

We lost a beloved family member, our aunt June A Gimenez , on October 26, 2023. She helped at Broadway Costumes with accounting and other office work "back in the good ol' days" before her mom, our founder, Juanita Petrali, retired. Eventually, she left the Sacramento region moving up to South Lake Tahoe and then eventually into Carson City, Nevada. Even though she no longer lived in the area, Broadway Costumes, and us, remained forever in her heart.

One of the interesting "facts" about our store, is that when Juanita Petrali (my grandmother) started Broadway Theatrical Supply back in 1965, she was making costumes and dancewear for her youngest 2 children as well as for others in the arts and theater community that were used extensively those early first years in Sacramento as well as making and fixing her husband's flags and banners for his business (Petrali's Stage & Theatrical Lighting). As things moved along, she needed more and more and her and her seamstresses just couldn't keep up, so she invested heavily in buying out a costume shop that was closing in Los Angeles. That buyout included many vintage pieces that were used in the early years of television and the Hollywood movie industry down in Los Angeles.

One particular piece that I wanted to point out is this pair of pants pictured from that purchase. They are a pair of pinstripe pants that were made by Sy Devore of Hollywood. If you look in the band of the pants (zoom in on the 2nd picture), you'll see who they were made for and in what year. I don't have any more information other than the name "Dean Martin" from 1953. All of the pants and suits and dresses had tags in them as to who made them and who they were made for - all probably used on TV, in the movies, on stage, or just for an event or personal use.

Unfortunately, this tag is the only one that has survived as the others were removed and lost. We'll just never know after all this time.
