The Temple Theatre Hello! We are a historic theatre located in downtown Saginaw offering a place to connect. Truly, “the Showplace of Northeastern Michigan.”

Originally opened on July 28, 1927, the Temple Theatre is Saginaw’s premiere venue for the performing arts, music, dance, live events, and cinema. After being completely renovated in 2002, the 1,750-seat theatre features an intricately detailed interior that captures the essence of the original Neo-Classic design. Legendary performers, contemporary stars, and famous performing groups grace the stage of our region’s most historic theatre.

TempleArts Board Chair Larry L. Preston Announces Retirement

Saginaw, MI (January 13, 2025) – The TempleArts (The Temple Theatre and Saginaw Art Museum & Gardens) board of directors today announced the retirement of its chairman, Larry L. Preston, effective May 30, 2025.

Preston, co-founder and former CEO of Tri-Star Trust Bank, has served as board chair since May 2019. He will be succeeded by current TempleArts CEO Mike Kolleth, who will assume the role of board chair upon his retirement as CEO on May 30, 2025.

“In his six years of service to TempleArts, Larry has been a transformational leader,” said Dr. Samuel Shaheen, President of the TempleArts Executive Committee. “He was the driving force behind the merger of the Temple Theatre and Saginaw Art Museum & Gardens and central to charting a highly successful strategic vision for the organization. His contributions to arts and culture in the Great Lakes Bay region and beyond will resonate for generations to come. We thank him for his outstanding service to TempleArts and our community.”

Preston’s contributions to the arts community include board membership and service on the Executive Committee of the Michigan Humanities Council. He has also served on the boards of The Midland Center for the Arts and The Great Lakes Bay Alliance, where he chaired the Advocacy and Art and Entertainment Committee.

Preston has served on the boards of the Saginaw Art Museum, as well as chairman of the board of the Saginaw Community Foundation. He received the Saginaw Arts and Enrichment Commission Great Lakes Bay All-Area Award. Additionally, he has served as chairman of the board of the Saginaw Chamber of Commerce and Heroes for Kids. Recently, Preston was honored with the prestigious Outstanding Businessman of the Year Award from Saginaw Valley State University.

Preston holds a BS degree from Michigan State University and graduated cm laude with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy.

Mike Kolleth Named Chairman of the Board of TempleArts

Saginaw, MI (January 13, 2025) – The TempleArts (The Temple Theatre and Saginaw Art Museum & Gardens) board of directors today announced that Mike Kolleth has been appointed chairman of the board, effective June 1, 2025.

Kolleth, who currently serves as President and CEO of TempleArts, will retire from his executive role on May 30, 2025, and succeed Larry L. Preston as board chair. Preston has announced his retirement from the board in May.

The board has initiated a search for a new senior executive to fill the executive position that Kolleth will vacate.

“During his six years as the senior executive of TempleArts, Mike has led a fundamental transformation of the organization,” said Dr. Samuel Shaheen, Chairman of the TempleArts Executive Committee. “He guided TempleArts through a merger and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, while significantly enhancing the quality of programming at both the Temple Theatre and the Saginaw Art Museum. Mike has also been instrumental in securing the long-term financial sustainability of TempleArts. He is uniquely qualified to continue serving our community as chairman of the board.”

Kolleth, a retired senior director of Government & Public Affairs at Dow, was appointed President and CEO of TempleArts in May 2019. A fourth-generation Saginaw resident, he holds a BS from Michigan State University, an MBA from Cambridge University, England, and a post-graduate certificate in Corporate Strategy from Oxford University, England.
