TEDxStCloud

TEDxStCloud In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day

conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman. The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

Join us tomorrow night to hear more from Mary Bruno and Sister Michaela Hedican!

Artist and printer Mary Bruno is dedicated to keeping the tradition of letterpress vibrant and relevant. At Bruno Press, she uses century-old presses to create hand-printed works that connect history, craft, and community. In 2020, she completed The Scroll, a 36-foot letterpress piece blending the Rule of Saint Benedict with imagery of monastic life and Minnesota’s landscape. The project celebrates faith and storytelling while highlighting the enduring power of print. Mary’s work invites audiences to see art as approachable, meaningful, and a vital way to connect with one another.

Sister Michaela Hedican of Saint Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota, has served as a teacher, spiritual director, and leader throughout her 60 years as a Benedictine. She has been prioress of two monasteries, president of the Monastic Congregation of Saint Benedict, and director of oblates and mission advancement. Today, she serves as assistant dean at Saint Scholastica Convent, supporting the sisters’ health care needs. Rooted in Benedictine spirituality, Sister Michaela brings a lifelong commitment to service, faith, and community—and often reflects that she may have been “born a Benedictine.”

In addition to creating a platform for ideas worth spreading, TEDxStCloud is committed to strong environmental stewardship. Once again, we have purchased carbon offset credits via Terrapass to mitigate the greenhouse gas emissions created by our TEDxStCloud event.

The funds used to purchase these offsets will be applied to carbon reduction projects across the country.

All Terrapass projects have been independently verified for transparency and quality by either the Climate Action Reserve (CAR) or the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).

This is one way TEDxStCloud will improve its overall environmental footprint and play a role in avoiding the worst possible impacts of global climate change.
