This family-friendly, outdoor concert provides an intimate and relaxed setting to enjoy classical music. BYOB, with food available for purchase. While seating is provided, concertgoers can pack their own picnic and enjoy the concert from the lawn as well.

Just a gentle reminder — To use the gardens for photo sessions, you need to call the office ahead of time to schedule an appointment. There is a fee for photo sessions. The phone number at Hemingbough is 225-635-6617. The office is open M- F. If there is no answer when you call, we are either on another line, or helping a client in person. To get a return call, please leave your name, phone number and a brief message. Messages left after hours weekdays, or on the weekends, will be returned when the office reopens. Thank you.

Please note— Aug. 24 & 25 — when the gates are closed, the gardens are closed. Once again we are under an excessive heat advisory with temps today forecast to reach 97F, and temps tomorrow forecast to reach 95F with higher humidity. Gardens will remain closed until Monday when our office is open. Sorry for any inconvenience.

We have an abundance of water lettuce. If you would like to have some of these for your pond, call our office 225-635-6617 Wednesday, Thursday or Friday July 10-12 to make an appointment. Please do not come by without an appointment. We are sharing our surplus water lettuce only. 🥬 Please do not take any other aquatic plants. The photo on the left is a close up of water lettuce.

Hemingbough’s office will be closed Thursday and Friday, July 4 and July 5 in observance of Independence Day. This includes the gardens as well. Please note that when the large double gates are closed, the gardens are closed to pedestrians as well as vehicles. We wish all a happy and safe July 4th

Pretty Boy is one of our peacocks who tends to hang out by the cottages instead of in the gardens. As July approaches, the mating season for 2024 is coming to a close. They will soon stop displaying their plumage for the peahens’ delight. Soon the males will shed their bright “eye” feathers but their bright blue neck feathers will still make them easy to distinguish from the females.

Purple Crape Myrtles are putting on a show in Imahara’s Legacy Garden at Hemingbough. There are about 100 Crape Myrtles of various varieties planted throughout the property to lend color to the summer landscape

UPDATE - They must have gone home on their own. There are two very friendly large dogs hanging out by the Cottages at Hemingbough. They have been here almost all day. They do not have collars. If anyone knows these dogs’ owners, could you please call them and ask them to come take their dogs home? Thanks

We are happy to announce that the Garden at Hemingbough is listed in this new brochure from the parish tourist commission. Please remember that the gardens are open to the public during daylight hours unless the gates are closed, and a private event is being held. Gates close daily by 6:30 pm in the summer. After dark, the Gardens are available to those staying in the Guest House only. Professional photo sessions need to be scheduled and fees paid at the office. Call 225-635-6617 to book your session. Reservations to stay in the Guest House may be made by calling 235-635-6617 before 8 pm. If your call is not answered, please leave a voicemail, and we will return your call ASAP. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Hemingbough still has some rooms available for The Day the War Stopped weekend. Call 225-635-6617 until 8 pm for reservations. Please leave message if we are unable to answer your call immediately so we can get back to you. Beautiful tranquil surroundings just a mile south of town. Rooms are $150 per night plus tax. Suites are $175 per night plus tax. A light in-room Continental breakfast/ of yogurt, fruit, and orange juice provided the first morning. Queen size beds, mini-fridge, microwave, TV and private bath. All guests have access to the gardens, front and rear Guest House galleries, and Garden Room.
