Congratulations to these students selected to participate in the 2025 Southern Utah University Honor Band. It is quite an honor to be selected as a musician for this band.

Students were selected by audition to rehearse and perform under the direction of Dr. Adam Lambert, Director of Bands at Southern Utah University. Many hours go into preparing for auditions and performance. We are so proud of the work these students have given to this opportunity.

The culminating concert will be held at the Heritage Center Theater in Cedar City, Utah on January 11th.

Congratulations to Jacob McGary and Mather Walker for making it into the Utah All-State Band! Being accepted as an All-State band member is one of the highest honors a band musician can receive.

Jacob is one of only eight oboes in the high school band and Mathew is one of only ten percussion students in the middle school band!

To get into the All-State band, these students had to audition individually against other musicians from the state of Utah. They had to demonstrate a high level of technical skill, musicality and interpretation of the music. The top-scoring students are then selected to participate in the All-State band. This process involves dedicated practice and careful preparations of the audition materials.

Congrats to these two amazing band students!!

Performance will be held at Abravanel Hall, 123 W South Temple, SLC, UT on Jan. 18 time TBA

Utah Tech High school honor band was quite a success! These students were given music to learn and practice on their own. They came together for one day of practice and then performed the next day! This is the result. What a performance it was!
They also got an opportunity to play with the Utah Tech band. This helps them raise their skills as they perform side by side with students who are a higher skill level. These students are always raising their skill levels!

No tickets required, this is a free event

Students in this honor band are nominated by their band teacher. Middle school nominations are from the Washington County school district. High school nominations are from Washington County, surrounding counties and even some from out of state.

After being nominated, students had to audition to be in the band. These students are some of the best in the area and have worked hard to be here. We applaud their dedication.

DHHS and DHMS Thunder bands performed their winter Comcert this week. They ended their performance with a special combined number with the Utah Tech Symphonic Band. Illuminati was the combined piece, composed by David Maslanka. It was a delightful evening of music. Enjoy here a small taste of the music that was performed.

DHHS Thunder Band!

Recruiting young students to take band is a major part of keeping our band numbers strong and our program growing. In our district, students can choose band as an elective in 6th grade! It’s the perfect age to start an instrument. Each year, the high school and middle school band interacts and performs for the elementary students to help stir up interest in the programs we offer. We are always trying to grow so we can have a strong music program. Please always encourage young students to continue playing their instruments!

Recruiting event at SRIS today during their fine arts week! It was fun to perform for the younger students and get them interested in the band program. Hopefully it will help some students want to give it a try! We love growing our amazing program.

It’s tech week for the play! That means hours and hours of practice for the pit, the actors and all tech students involved. This is the week where everything comes together. These musicians have worked countless hours along with the actors and techs to bring you SHREK next week!! Let’s hear it for this teamwork!
Parents bring in food each night this week so students and faculty can keep it all going late into the evening.

Desert Hills Marching band at the Veterans Day Parade, celebrating and honoring the veterans in our community. Today’s March was led by Jodi Schliesser with band director Michael Pollard.

We had an amazing opportunity to take some of the band students up to Provo for a once in a decade chance to see The Presidents Own Marine Band live in concert. It was a phenomenal and inspiring concert. Afterwards the Marine Band members came into the audience with our students for a question and answer session. We are so thankful to the Marine Band for the tickets and Q/A session. They were so generous to allow us this opportunity to inspire our own band students.
