When I look back on how Electric Audio began I have to go back all the way to when I returned home from serving an LDS mission in California. The year was 2002 and I really missed performing. As a child I grew up really involved with music and my mom had me performing at a really young age. I remember singing in front of my elementary school in the second grade. I’m sure she nominated me to do that. As a junior in High School I remember really coming out of my shell a little bit and wanted to audition for a musical “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.” I auditioned and got the lead part! I was so excited until I saw the manual I had to memorize and immediately anxiety set in. But I was determined to not live by fear and had an attitude of wanting to succeed and do really well in the play. I worked hard and on opening night I was ready to perform. I remember being in front of people singing and acting and knew I wanted to continue that for the rest of my life. I continued to be involved in everything there was to do musically at the high school and in the community up until I graduated. When I returned home from a mission something was missing. I knew I had to do something musically or a part of me would die.
I was attending Weber State and saw a flyer for a ca****la auditions. The name back then was called Tongue-Tied. I remember not really liking the name but it sounded fun and it was something I wanted to audition for so I could get back into singing and performing. My brother Jake who has a lot of the same passions that I do came with me and we auditioned to be singers in the group. Of course we made it and we began performing all over the state and even performed in California and Washington for different a ca****la performances. We won 1st place and audience favorite at Harmony Sweepstakes in Washington. It was really cool getting a trophy for performing and again I realized I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.
A few years later I was performing on the 4th of July with my a ca****la group. There was a song that we sang every show called The Grundy Auction. It was a country song. Every time we sang that song I would bring a girl up on stage and we’d make her sing and dance if we could. The girl I brought up this time happened to be not just any ordinary girl. She was beautiful with her cowboy hat on and blonde hair and had an electrifying smile. She really got into it and I was hooked again and had to get her number afterwards. We began dating and were married later that year.
This is a long story I know but all these experiences relate to how Electric Audio began. My wife has always supported me. Later we changed the a ca****la group name to Vocalocity and bought some sweet sound equipment. One of my buddies had seen us perform and knew we had a really cool set-up. He asked me if I would DJ his wedding. I thought, wow that sounds like a lot of fun. So I planned a set list of songs that he suggested and songs that I thought would be good and ran sound for him in his backyard during his reception and was hooked again. I loved it! I loved watching people dance to the music that I selected for them. From there I was asked to do it again and again. Now my wife does it with me and even Jake has DJed a few weddings with me. I love doing what I am passionate about. I still perform in Vocalocity and I still DJ weddings and all sorts of events. I believe in using my talents and sharing them with others and doing what you love to do in life. It’s crazy to think that the first wedding I did was so long ago! Anyway, that is my long story of how Electric Audio began.
