The weather was beautiful during the ceremony, but switched to rain just after the I troductions to the Reception. Fortunately, the clouds started to break providing a wonderful opportunity for rainbow photos, when sunset photos were originally in the plans.
Dinner was a taco bar with all of the fixings and was perfectly done, followed by a dessert table that had a small cake for their Cake Cutting, but primarily set up with a variety of cookies and some cupcakes (not made by me). Their Maple Cookies were fabulous!
The Bride & Groom selected some songs that fit their crowd perfectly and the dance floor was hopping from the first song right through to the end. Many songs had their guests singing loudly together as one big group, which is always great to see!

Working on a basket weave design with buttercream frosting. The pink stripes are done without the grooved pattern side to represent a ribbon being woven into the pattern . This is an 8-inch diameter , 4-layered cake.

This 3-tiered wedding cake has a top tier 6-inch in diameter, 4-layers of gluten-free chocolate cake with a vanilla buttercream filling.
The middle tier is 8-inches in diameter, 4-layers but vanilla cake with a vanilla buttercream filling.
The base layer is 10-inch diameter, 4-layered chocolate cake also with a vanilla buttercream filling.
The entire cake is decorated with a vanilla buttercream frosting to represent the green mountains.
The entire cake rests on a 12-inch cake board made out of Corian by Vermont Solid Surface in St Johnsbury, VT.

Uplights: with and without.
This is just one example of a venue with and without uplighting.
Shown is a barn in Barnet, Vermont with 12 lights spaced out around the first floor of the barn. The wedding couple chose Red, White and Blue as their wedding colors.
When deciding whether or not to add uplighting to your wedding venue (often for an added fee for most Wedding DJs), you should consider a few things. Cost. What colors you would like. The venue layout. The venue’s wall surface (texture, color). Any additional lighting in the venue. Time of day for your wedding. Each of these can effect the benefits of having uplights.
Early afternoon reception might be too bright to see the uplights. If the venue’s interior lights cannot be dimmed, that will bleed out the colors of the uplights. Vibrant wall colors of the venue could change the look of the uplights shining against the wall.
Be sure to talk with your Wedding DJ and the Wedding Venue about uplights. Has the venue been used with uplights before, and if so do they have any photos to look at. Does the Wedding DJ have any images to share? Can the uplights be switched from a static color used during dinner to flashing lights for the dancing portion of the reception?
Any person pushing sales will tell you, “Oh, they are well worth the money. I highly recommend them.”
I offer them as an added option, and will gladly give you my opinions and recommendations, but ultimately it’s a personal preference.

Uplights can provide a wonderful added touch to a wedding venue (or other special event) throughout the reception.
Each light can be programmed to different steady color to closely match the Wedding Couple’s colors, or just as an added soft glow to the room, shining up the wall during dinner.
After dinner, the lights can be switched to something more upbeat and flashy to fill the room with vibrant colors as the dance floor opens and the partying really begins!
Be sure to talk with your Wedding DJ about adding uplights to your celebration.

Gymnastics cake! 🤸♂️ 🎂
For this 6th birthday, the sprouting gymnast wanted a cake to go along with her theme and her passion for cartwheels and splits.
The cake itself is a 10-inch diameter, 4-layered cake with vanilla Italian buttercream for the frosting and filling.
The purple on top of the cake even matched her outfit for her birthday party (completely by chance!) at the Kingdom Gymnastics facility in the Green Mountain Mall of St Johnsbury, VT.

When the Bride likes vanilla cake and the Groom likes chocolate cake, you make both into one.
This cake is a 4-layered, 6-inch diameter 1/2 and 1/2 with a maple buttercream frosting for the filling and vanilla buttercream frosting on the outside.
This will be the top tier of a 4-tiered cake. The couple plans on keeping this top tier in their freezer after the reception until their First Anniversary.
The other tiers are chocolate with vanilla buttercream filling, vanilla with strawberry filling and a chocolate with maple buttercream filling. I’ll post pictures after the wedding this Saturday at Burke Mountain, East Burke, VT.

Lights + Music = Hoppin’ Dance Floor.
I wish it were that easy.
(I intentionally removed the sound “Friends In Low Places” to avoid copyright infringement 🙄😒 .. so insert your own music choice 😉😏😂)
It takes more than music to create a great party atmosphere. Yes, the music 🎶 is important, but if it weren’t for the party crowd, there would be no one to listen to the music.
The flashing lights add a fun vibe to go with the sound, helping partiers get into the mood.
The house lights being dimmed help encourage shy and timid guests out onto the floor, in case they feel they don’t dance well.
Others (of age) need liquid encouragement provided by the bartender 🍺 🥂. (Tip them well)
Too hot and humid, guests are more likely to mingle and chit-chat.
Too early in the evening and it’s still too light outside.
If there is a fire pit and it’s nice weather, guests will hang out outside for a time.
As for the music itself, you’ve got to have a variety of choices to appease the dynamic crowd (younger, older, middle-aged, Classic Rock lovers, Hip-Hop fans, Golden Oldies, Pop and so forth). A wedding is not a “Club” setting. At a Club, you often pay a cover charge with the expectation of the type of music you are going in to listen to. Weddings span generations and geographical areas, and draw in many personalities, likes and dislikes. Sticking to one style will cater to some and alienate others. Switch up the music and you can watch the crowd change.
There is no simple answer .. and there is NO magic CD to plug into the controller. Don’t believe me? How many people listen to the radio or even their own playlist without skipping a song or radio station? It’s rare. Now try that same concept with 150 guests and one dance floor.
